More than £200,000 worth of counterfeit closing has been seized by police during yet ANOTHER raid in Cheetham Hill.
In what was part of the ongoing ‘Operation Vulcan’ – which is Greater Manchester Police‘s (GMP) mission to crackdown on the sale of counterfeit goods, and hit the finances of the gangs operating out of the Cheetham Hill and Strangeways areas of Manchester – neighbourhood officers from GMP’s Challenger executed a warrant and carried out raids at a premises in Cheetham Hill last week (17 January).
During the raids, police found multiple boxes of clothes and footwear, which were believed to have a street value of approximately £215,000.
The items seized will be repurposed or destroyed where appropriate, GMP has confirmed.
No arrests were made during the raids this time around.
But according to GMP, some “significant intelligence” was gained instead, as local officers were able to “utilise skills obtained”, thanks to Operation Vulcan’s success in tackling counterfeit items in the area.
This success of this latest raid comes after it was revealed that Manchester’s alleged ‘counterfeit king’ had been tracked down and arrested following another series of coordinated early-morning police raids last week.
GMP says its neighbourhood teams are committed to keeping the Strangeways and Cheetham Hill areas “free of crime”, and will continue to work closely with both Vulcan and Challenger “when needed”.
“Investigating and tackling criminality in our communities is a fundamental part of neighbourhood policing and we will utilise all of the resources available as we go about this,” commented Inspector Antonia Jackson, who is from GMP’s City of Manchester district.
“Operation Vulcan has been active in this area for a number of months now.
“Given the nature of the finds, we worked closely with the Vulcan team to assess the items and plan out steps going forward, and as a neighbourhood team, we work hard to tackle all types of crime.”
