E-scooters are now available to rent from MediaCityUK after operator Lime extended its rollout of vehicles in the region.
The electric vehicles have been on trial in Salford since the end of 2020 – permitted for use in specially-allocated zones.
Designated e-scooter routes have previously been limited to the area surrounding University of Salford’s Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses, but Lime has now officially rolled out its vehicles to Salford Quays.
The company has also said it is working closely with the council and Transport for Greater Manchester to expand further across Salford throughout March.
Alan Clarke, director of policy and government affairs for Lime in the UK, said the company was “excited” at expanding its Salford rollout, encouraging people in the MediaCity area to take advantage.
He added that the vehicles should only be used for essential journeys whilst the lockdown remained in effect.
Lime e-scooters can be accessed via a smartphone app and QR code – costing £1 to unlock and 15p per minute to ride.
Key workers can access the scooters for free via the ‘Lime Aid’ scheme.
Rochdale Council also signed off on an e-scooter trial for the local town centre earlier this month – with hundreds of the vehicles set to be available in Rochdale by April.
