Serving Greater Manchester Police detective charged with sex offences

A serving Greater Manchester Police detective has been charged with sex offences after appearing in court, it has been confirmed.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has revealed that Detective Sergeant Richard Mills has been charged with three counts of sexual assault – which each occurred between January 2014 and September 2016.
DS Mills, who currently works at Nexus House in Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside, has been suspended from duty, GMP confirmed in a statement.
The 40-year-old appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court yesterday (20 July).
According to the police force, the charges brought against DS Mills follow an investigation by GMP’s Professional Standards Branch, and necessary disciplinary proceedings will recommence following the conclusion of criminal proceedings.
Confirming matters in a formal statement released yesterday, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “A serving officer has been charged with sex offences.
“Detective Sergeant Richard Mills has been charged with three counts of sexual assault between January 2014 and September 2016.
“DS Mills, who works at Nexus House, has been suspended from duty and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on 20 July 2023.
