Watch the cute moment a couple gets engaged during half-time at a Macclesfield FC game
We don't care that it's not Greater Manchester — it's close enough and it's sweet, so shut up.
Thanks to the internet, we’ve seen all kinds of public proposals of marriage over the year, but we have to admit, we never thought we’d see a couple get engaged at a Macclesfield game.
The referee’s blown the whistle for half-time, players are in the dressing room getting a hairdryer from the gaffer and most people are either going for a pint or pee, but this bloke decided to pop the question.
That was the story of how two local Macclesfield FC fan Connor Ruddick proposed to his girlfriend Shaunna Alexzina during the break at the Cheshire side’s Northern Premier League fixture against Guiseley AFC on Saturday, 25 November.
Here’s how it happened:
Walking his bride-to-be out onto the club formerly known as Macclesfield Town‘s turf at the Moss Rose ground, now dubbed the Leasing.com Stadium, Connor caught his partner and pretty much everyone else watching on completely off-guard as the couple got engaged right in the middle of the pitch.
Bending down on one knee, it’s fair to say Shaunna was shocked as her first reaction was simply, “Are you joking?”, before it quickly becomes apparent he is very much not and her responses then turn into a series of high-pitched squeaks.
Saying yes and embracing as the announcement goes out over the tannoy and fans watching from the stands start to clap and cheer, the two pose for a few photos stood on the centre circle before heading off to, well, spend the rest of their lives together.
Just lovely stuff.

Responding in the comments underneath the video, Shaunna simply added, “Best day ever.. I was completely oblivious haha thank you”.
As for Connor, posting on Facebook he wrote: “She said yes!!!!”, giving his thanks to the club’s Head of Commerical and Sponsorships, Bob Trafford for “all [his] help over these past few months”, adding, “thankfully it’s all been worth it!”
And to top it all off, The Silkmen went on to win the game 5-1 — a nice little bonus.
Congratulations to the happy couple and all the best for the future!
