Dogs have been a saving grace during lockdown – especially to those who have welcomed new four-legged friend into their lives.

As the ongoing pandemic deprived us of contact with human friends over the last fifteen months, we have found even more company in dogs – with some people buying or adopting a new pup to help get them through the tough times.

But which breeds have proven to be the most popular with new dog owners?

Well, according to new research by GoCompare – which is based on the number of insurance quotes issued for each type of dog since the country was placed into lockdown last March – the most popular breed appears to be the French Bulldog.

The research showed that Frenchies made up 9,324 of the insurance requests during that time.

Other breeds ranking among the top ten include the German Shepherd, the Golden Retriever and Border Collies.
