Chester Zoo is giving away 5,000 free tickets to charities and the local community

Tickets are for people who may have previously faced barriers when trying to visit the zoo.

Chester Zoo is giving away thousands of free tickets to charities, organisations, and community groups across the UK.

Ahead of the half term this month, and with the rising cost of living crisis sadly continuing to make its impact felt nationwide, the UK’s biggest charity zoo – which has been crowned the best large visitor attraction in England for 2022 – has now launched a brand-new initiative called the ‘Charity Connections Scheme’.

5,000 people from a range of low-income groups will get to visit the zoo for free, and learn all about its mission to prevent extinction.

The free tickets are available to a range charities, organisations, and community groups that help support people who may have previously faced barriers when trying to visit the zoo.

Nicola Buckley, Conservation Education & Engagement Manager at Chester Zoo, said the new initiative is all about “connecting people with nature”.

“We’re delighted to launch our Charity Connections Scheme,” she explained.

“We want to encourage charities, not-for-profits or community groups that help support people who face barriers in their life, which may have previously stopped them from visiting our fantastic zoo, to apply for free tickets.”

Nicola continued: “If your organisation works with young people, those with additional needs or disabilities, minority ethnic groups or low-income families with financial difficulties, then we want to connect those people with nature, too.

“By visiting our 128 acre zoo and the 27,000 highly threatened animals that call it home, we want people to feel empowered to live sustainably in their own lives.

“[We also want them to] learn all about our efforts to prevent extinction.”
