Eight fire engines rushed to the scene last night - with crews still working to keep the blaze under control.
Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service have worked all night to tackle a huge blaze which broke out at a commercial premises in Miles Platting yesterday evening.
Crews were originally called to the scene of the fire on Oldham Road at around 10.40pm on Wednesday (22 July).
The towering flames demanded eight fire engines and other specialist appliances – with crews receiving assistance from Greater Manchester Police and Electricity North West.
Six fire trucks remained on site on Thursday morning.
Residents are being urged to avoid the area.
The incident has led to widespread travel disruption, with many services on train routes in and around Manchester delayed or cancelled.
Northern rail is asking passengers to check their service before they travel.
Oldham Road remains closed from Queens Road/Hulme Hall Lane to The Gateway/Ten Acres Lane, Newton Heath.
Monsall Road and Grimshaw Lane are also shut.
SM Steven Forster of Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue said it had proven to be a “challenging incident”, with crews needing to gain access to different parts of the site whilst working under very warm conditions.
He added: “I want to praise the determination and professionalism they’ve shown.
“The smoke plume from the fire has now reduced considerably, and we will remain at the scene this morning to damp down the remaining pockets of fire.
“Some road closures are still in place. I’d like to thank local residents and business owners for their patience and cooperation, and ask that people please continue to avoid the area while we are in attendance.”
