Wayne Rooney reports photos shared online to Greater Manchester Police
The photos in question have been widely-shared on social media platforms this past weekend.
The lawyers of former Manchester United and England footballer Wayne Rooney has reported a range of photos taken of him to police.
According to The Mirror and the BBC, the photos have been “reported to Greater Manchester Police as a possible crime”, with Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford having refused to comment, but the paper reporting that he “directed calls to reputation PR expert Ian Monk”.
The photos in question have been shared on Twitter, and fans have circulated them around messaging services like WhatsApp.
In the photos widely-shared on social media, the current Derby County manager is seen asleep in a chair with a number of unknown women posing beside him, and several bottles can also be seen in the shot.
There is a timestamp reading “8.30” in the images, but no indication as to whether this time is AM or PM, or the exact date on which the footage was captured – but they are believed to have been taken in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria.
There is no suggestion that Rooney has behaved in any way inappropriately.
While the ex-Manchester United star’s representatives have confirmed the matter had been reported to police, his lawyers have declined to comment on the nature of the images.
Greater Manchester Police has been asked to comment.
