Marcus Rashford will finally receive his MBE from Prince William today

The Wythenshawe-born 24-year-old is being recognised for his amazing work and campaigning over the past 19 months.

Local hero and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford will finally receive his MBE from Prince William in a ceremony today.

The Wythenshawe-born 24-year-old is being recognised for his amazing work and campaigning over the past 19 months to ensure that no child went hungry.

His work to tackle food poverty saw the government U-turn on its policy on providing free school meals to children during the school holidays.

Rashford will be presented with his MBE by the Duke of Cambridge, who is hosting his first investiture since the pandemic began.

Also being honoured today is actress Dame Sheila Hancock for services to drama and charity.

The footballer has already been recognised with an honorary doctorate from the University of Manchester – the youngest person to do so – and been immortalised in a huge mural in Withington.

Thousands of messages of support were stuck to the mural after it was vandalised following England’s defeat in the Euro 2020 finals.

The messages have since been removed and will be preserved and archived at the Central Library.

DMA’S announce latest UK and Ireland tour, including a pair of Manchester dates

Aussie trio and adopted Mancs, DMA’S, have officially announced a brand-new headline tour across Great Britain and Ireland, confirming not one but two nights here in Manchester.

We’re also the only city getting double dates, because they clearly love us as much as we love them.

The Sydney-formed indie and alt-rock favourites have always had plenty of success in this part of the world, and with DMA’S getting ready to release a new self-titled studio album – their fifth up to this point – they’re obviously getting ready to tour it.

Having just dropped the latest single from it entitled ‘Hurracane’ (they spell things however they want, as we know), they have now revealed a full list of UK and IE live dates.

Speaking on the fresh track, lead guitarist and secondary vocalist Matt Mason said in a press release: “Hurracane has a recurrent musical motion that’s a nod to the song lyrically, and we used the idea of a displacing storm to tell the story, leading into a style that we hadn’t recorded ourselves before.”

Meanwhile, the latest LP is set to drop this August; we’ve already heard the lead single in ‘My Baby’s Place’ and the second song, ‘Heatin Park’, all of which have gone down well with fans.

The early reviews of this third track and accompanying music video also look to be largely positive, with the almost folky mandolin riffs showing a different kind of approach from the group.

As for their upcoming tour dates, besides a pair of Manchester gigs, they’ll also be playing the likes of the Olympia in Liverpool, Sheffield’s Octagon Centre, and the Barbican in York, just to name a few.

Their popularity up here in the North was only further proved by how many people came along to NBHD Weeekender 2026 (review HERE) seemingly just for them.

General admission to see DMA’s in Manchester on Friday, 5 and Saturday, 6 February 2027, as well as all other domestic tour dates, will be available from 10am on 12 June, 2026; you can get ready to grab your tickets right HERE.

All we’ll say is that after we saw them on their Hills End anniversary tour earlier this year, you have to make sure you go to at least one of these shows.

Manchester’s biggest comedy festival announces jam-packed lineup as affordable tickets go on sale

Manchester’s most popular comedy festival is back later this year, and there’s some massive names on the lineup set to bring the laughs.

After proving to be a smash-hit success in its inaugural year back in 2022, and several other successful runs in the years following, Laughterama is back in Manchester in early September, and will once again be taking over the iconic Castlefield Bowl in the heart of the city centre for five days of fun.

Thousands of comedy lovers attend Laughterama each year to enjoy countless sell-out stand-up sets, and this year will be no different, as festivalgoers are in for an ‘explosive series of shows‘ from some of the hottest names on the comedy circuit.

Jack Dee, Nick Mohammed, Sara Pascoe, Fern Brady, and Chris McCausland are just some of the famous names on this year’s jam-packed lineup.

They’ll be joined by other big names like Michelle De Swarte, Stewart Lee, Nina Conti, Ivo Graham, Ellis James, and Harriett Kemsley when they all take to the Castlefield Bowl stage over the five-day festival from Wednesday 2 – Sunday 6 September.

Some of the other names you can expect are BAFTA nominee Rose Matafeo, stand-up marvel Sarah Keyworth, Plebs and Friday Night Dinner star Tom Rosenthal, and podcast hero John Robbins.

It wouldn’t be Laughterama without some newcomers and breakthrough stars, of course, and on the lineup this year are viral sensation Vittorio Angelone, fast-rising talents Kiran Saggu and Jen Nolan, and BBC New Comedy Award finalist Evaldas Karosas.

And aside from the comedy, as always, you can expect the very-best eats from Manchester’s street food scene will also be on site to tuck into, as well as an exciting selection of bars serving signature beers, cocktails, and more.
