The real living wage has been raised by a record 10.1% to help workers navigate the rising cost of living crisis.
With inflation now at a 40-year high, and the cost of living crisis continuing to make its impact felt nationwide, it’s now been revealed that almost 400,000 workers in the UK are set to receive a pay rise after an increase the “real living wage” agreed by thousands of businesses and organisations has been brought forward.
This means that the hourly rates for the living wage are rising by £1 to £10.90 across the UK, and by 90p to £11.95 in London.
The rates are higher than the government’s statutory £9.50 an hour for adults.
Those set to receive the rise are paid by more than 11,000 employers who have signed up to the Real Living Wage Foundation scheme – with the foundation claiming 390,000 people would benefit to the tune of almost £2,000 for a full-time worker.

The new Living Wage rates are out!
Both our UK and London #LivingWage rates have risen: £10.90 (UK) £11.95 (London) meaning a pay-rise for hundreds of thousands of workers. With the cost of living crisis, it’s more important than ever.
The number of real living wage employers has more than doubled in the past two years, with major new names including the Royal Albert Hall, Aston University, and the ExCel Centre joining half of the FTSE 100 companies, such as Aviva, Everton FC, Ikea, Burberry, and Lush.
Thousands of small businesses are also signed-up to the scheme.
The Real Living Wage Foundation said the 10.1% hike represented the largest annual increase implemented in the UK.

“With living costs rising so rapidly, millions are facing an awful ‘heat or eat’ choice this winter – that’s why a real living wage is more vital than ever,” said Katherine Chapman – Director of the Real Living Wage Foundation.
“Today’s new rates will provide hundreds of thousands of workers and their families with greater security and stability during these incredibly difficult times. We are facing unprecedented challenges with the cost-of-living crisis, but businesses continue to step up and support workers by signing up to the Living Wage in record numbers.

The hunt is on to find a National Lottery player in Tameside who’s won £1m – and not claimed it.
The missing millionaire won the huge prize on a Lotto ticket bought on Wednesday 1 July, somewhere in the Borough of Tameside.
But with just two months to go until the prize expires, the player has still not come forward to claim their winnings.
The winning numbers in were 5, 8, 26, 33, 39, 42 and the Bonus Ball was 54.
Now, the National Lottery is renewing its search for the millionaire, calling for the mystery winner to cash in their prize before it expires at midnight on 28 December.
National Lottery Senior Winners’ Advisor Andy Carter has been out in Tameside ‘hunting’ for the missing millionaire, visiting everywhere from Portland Basin to Hartshead Pike.
Andy said: “I’ve searched high and low across Tameside for our missing millionaire, but I’ve had no luck.

“With just two months left to claim this £1 million prize, now is the time for anyone who bought a Lotto ticket in Tameside for the 1 July draw to have another look.
“The winning ticket could be tucked away somewhere completely ordinary, while its owner has absolutely no idea they are a millionaire.
“We’d love to find the person we’ve been looking for and turn this search into a celebration. So, if you bought a ticket in the area, dig it out, check those numbers and help us find Tameside’s missing millionaire. It could be you.”
With all National Lottery draws, players have 180 days from the day of the draw to claim their prize if they have the winning ticket. Anyone who has any queries or who believes they have the winning ticket for any of the National Lottery draws within the 180-day deadline should call the National Lottery Line on 0333 234 5050 or email [email protected].
