Dozens of pubs across Greater Manchester will soon be serving pints in limited-edition Remembrance Day poppy glasses.

In a fitting nod to all those Brits who’ve taken pub glasses home with them without permission to do so, this time it’s actually encouraged, as pub group Marston’s has joined forces with The Royal British Legion to create a new poppy-themed glass in a bid to raise vital funds for veterans during this year’s Poppy Appeal.

132 pubs in the North West will be taking part in the campaign, including 39 here in Greater Manchester.

Both pint and half-pint poppy glasses will be available to buy at more than a thousand Marston’s pubs from this Saturday (26 October) – with popular pubs in Manchester, Salford, and Wigan being just a few of the locals you can head on down to.

Glasses will be available to purchase empty, as well as with a drink of your choice to be enjoyed in the pubs themselves before taking them home, with a pint glass costing you £2.50 and half-pint glasses costing £2.

100% of the profits from glass sales will go to The Royal British Legion.

“Brits have been known to take glasses home with them from the pub, but this time we’re encouraging it,” commented Jared Sedgwick, who is the Director of Operations at Marston’s.

“We’re so proud to be working in partnership with The Royal British Legion to give our customers another way to raise awareness and crucial funds for veterans, who are such a large part of the Marston’s community, and we want to welcome everyone to their local pub for what will be a month to remember, and join us in saying cheers to our heroes.”

The poppy glasses are just of the things Marston’s is doing to commemorate Remembrance Day this year, and alongside that, traditional pin-on poppies will also be available to buy at pubs.
