Manchester’s very own busking sensation, Alex Spencer, has officially released his first single as a solo artist entitled, ‘A Night To Waste’.

The teenage singer and guitarist has been serenading the streets of Manchester city centre since 2019 when he was just 12 with the famous Piccadilly Rats, and has been playing guitar since the age of 10.

Cut to present day after plenty of love online and some massive gigs including stepping out on stage at the AO Arena and playing for the Manchester City squad more than once, and Alex managed to bag himself his first record deal.

Now, just a few weeks on from putting pen to paper, Alex has released his first single and just like the covers and originals he’s shared with shoppers and passersby on Market Street, people are absolutely loving it.

Featuring lyrics about the frustrations of being a young person living through lockdown (when the song was first written) and the very common experience of wanting something beyond the life and routine where you grew up, there’s a real relatability to be found in Alex‘s songwriting even at such a young age.

Although he might have primarily plied his trade around the city centre, Alex is originally from Droylsden in east Manchester and the music video itself breaks up clips of the 16-year-old playing in various studio spaces with shots from around his hometown.

Now part of the Modern Sky record label — the same label which launched the likes of Jamie Webster, Brooke Combe and fellow local success story The Lathums — Alex has the platform to release his music and play even bigger gigs.

Following the release of his first single, he and his regular bandmates even got to play a Stone Roses cover for XS Manchester.
