A body has been found in the search for a missing 26-year-old man from Stockport now named online as Charlie Johnson.

Previously identified only by his first name, Charlie was last seen on Thursday, 21 September at approximately 11:30pm around the Cheadle Hulme area of Stockport.

Greater Manchester Police put out a missing persons appeal on Friday urging people to come forward with any information in an effort to ensure he was “safe and well”.

However, GMP has now sadly issued an update confirming that a body had been found during the search and that Charlie’s next of kin have been made aware, with a file having been passed to the coroner. Tributes are now being paid on social media, including by local football clubs he played for.

Detective Inspector Michael Jimenez from GMP said: “Our thoughts remain with Charlie’s family at this difficult time, and we have specialist officers in place to support them. Thank you to those who shared our appeals.”
