MUSU has issued a statement after its restaurant had all its windows smashed and dining room covered with paint in a horrific incident on Valentine’s Day.
The luxurious Japanese restaurant on Bridge Street said it is ‘saddened and shocked’ by the vandalism that occurred on one of the busiest nights of the year.
Diners had been tucking in to courses of high-end sushi when people wearing balaclavas and ski masks smashed all the windows at the front of the restaurant.
Cans of white paint were then thrown around the acclaimed eatery.
MUSU, which received rave reviews from national critic Grace Dent, has said that the ‘safety and security of our guests and staff are our utmost priority’.
The city centre business confirmed that no one was injured in the attack.
Diners who were eating at MUSU on Valentine’s Day have been invited back for dinner.
The restaurant has cancelled its lunchtime service today but says, remarkably, it will be back open in time for this evening.
A spokesperson from MUSU said: “Following on from last night’s incident we are really pleased that thanks to some brilliant suppliers and contractors we will be open this evening.
“We have unfortunately had to cancel lunchtime service and are calling everyone who will be affected – we’ve had a really busy week this week and are gutted to have disappointed some diners.
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the events that unfolded, and we cannot express enough how sorry we are that our guests’ evening was disrupted.
“The safety and security of our guests and staff are our utmost priority, and we are grateful that no one was hurt during this senseless act. We are offering diners the chance to come back and dine again on us.
“We are also reviewing and enhancing our security measures to prevent any such occurrences in the future.
“We have no further update as to the incident itself but we are working with the police to find out what we can.”
