A UK supermarket has launched a new initiative to help feed hungry families in the UK over the summer holidays.

Morrisons supermarkets have teamed up with leading UK bakery Warburtons to hand out free meals to people in need during the summer holidays.

Between 17 July and 13 August, anyone can visit a Morrisons cafe in the UK and ‘ask for Ellen’. In return, they’ll receive two crumpets with butter and jam.

The scheme is named after the Bolton-born bakery’s founder, Ellen Warburton, who first started baking in 1876.

Her first batch of four loaves of bread and six cakes sold out in under an hour, and since then the bakery has grown to become the leading brand for bread in the UK.

Warburtons has supported charities ever since its inception through the Warburtons Foundation, and in the last year has donated over one million products to UK schools and foodbanks.

The business has also set itself the target of donating 1.25 million products to those in need this year.
