CCTV images have been released as part of a police appeal following an armed robbery at a corner shop in Wigan on Christmas Eve.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is appealing to the public for information and witnesses after officers were called to reports of an armed robbery at an off licence on Spa Road in Atherton at around 7pm on Christmas Eve (Saturday 24 December) last year.
GMP say officers arrived at the scene and their initial enquiries established that a group of men had entered the store, and one of the men was armed with what is believed to be a firearm, before he proceeded to threaten staff.
Cigarettes, tobacco, and cash were all stolen with an accumulative value of £2,280.
An investigation is underway, GMP has confirmed, and detectives are now appealing to the public to come forward with any information they may have about the incident.
“This was a frightening ordeal for staff members inside the shop,” said Detective Constable Phillip Kelley, of GMP’s Wigan division.
“Despite there being no injuries as a result of the incident, it has understandably left those involved shaken up by the ordeal, [and while] no arrests have been made, extensive work is being done by investigators who are trawling through CCTV and speaking to witnesses.
“So far we have spoken to a number of people, and we are keen to ensure that everyone who was in the area on around the time, and who could have information, is spoken to – so if you haven’t already then please contact us.
“We urge anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV footage or has information about the incident to speak to police.”
GMP says anyone with any information about this incident should contact police on 0161 856 3034 quoting 2403 24/12/22.
Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
