Sainsbury’s has launched a festive recruitment drive, and wants to hire thousands of temporary staff to help “deliver an exceptional Christmas for customers” this year.
With the festive season fast approaching, and most British supermarkets having already unveiled their Christmas food and drink ranges for 2024, Sainsbury’s is gearing up for what is always one of the busiest times for the retail industry by launching a massive UK-wide seasonal recruitment drive.
The supermarket says its stores and warehouses have already started to prepare themselves for the festive season, and is now looking for an army of temporary workers to join teams across the country to help along the way.
20,000 temporary Christmas staff will be hired in total – with 18,000 of those at the supermarket itself and 2,000 being at Argos outlets housed within selected Sainsbury’s stores.
With a wide range of roles available, the tens of thousands of temporary staff across the UK – including here in Greater Manchester – will be tasked with serving customers, restocking shelves, and fulfilling online orders by picking, packing, and delivering.

Then, in the supermarket’s depots and fulfilment centres, colleagues will work in warehouses to ensure products reach homes and stores nationwide ready for customers to enjoy.
All seasonal staff will be employed on fixed-term contracts that range from three to 12 weeks.

The roles also come with a number of staff perks too, as in a bid to “further support and reward colleagues with festive season expenses”, Sainsbury’s has made the decision to bump its 10% colleague discount offer up to 15% every Friday and Saturday, with an additional 15% off at Argos every payday Friday.

“As the festive season draws near, we’re getting ready to create a memorable Christmas for our customers,” explained Prerana Issar, who is the Chief People Officer at Sainsbury’s.

“Our brilliant colleagues play a central role in bringing this to life.
“Joining us during this busy time is a fantastic opportunity to meet great people and acquire skills that will stay with you long after the festive season. Our amazing store colleagues play a huge role in making Sainsbury’s the first choice for our customers, ensuring that good food is joyful, accessible, and affordable however households choose to celebrate.”

Emily Sergeant
Morrisons has announced that it’ll be offering unlimited free refills on hot drinks at all of its cafes during the colder months.
With the country starting to fully embrace everything autumn has to offer, supermarket shelves quickly filling up with festive food and gifts, and the temperatures soon to be dropping by the day, Morrisons wants its in-store cafes to be place of warmth and comfort for anyone who needs it, which is why the retailer’s announced a ‘Winter Refills Allowance’.
Unlimited free refills will be available on all self-serve hot drinks all year round.
The offer includes everything from lattes and cappuccinos for caffeine-lovers needing an extra boost, to fruit teas and creamy hot chocolates for those with a sweeter tooth.
There are more than 400 cafes inside Morrisons stores across the UK, and all of them will be offering a wide range of hot drinks to “warm the body and soul” all winter long – with prices starting from as little as £1.85.
Fancy complementing your hug-in-a-mug with a sweet treat?
There’s plenty of options to satisfy any craving, so you can help yourself to a slice of classic Victoria Sponge, a fruity Sicilian Lemon Muffin, or lots of others for just £4 for the hot drink and cake deal.

You can even grab a hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner while you’re there too, with breakfast butties, and adult sandwich meal deals from £4.25, and kids also eating free seven days a week when you buy and adult meal for £5 or over.
“We are always looking for ways to give our customers more reasons to visit our cafes,” explained Becky Wilson, who is the Morrisons Cafe Buyer.
“The Winter Refills Allowance does just that. As well as the quality food at affordable prices, our cafes are a space for communities to connect, work or relax, and they can now do so over a warm mug of their choosing.”

ITV is currently in the process of casting for the next series of My Mum, Your Dad, and is looking for single parents to take part.
It had long been rumoured that ITV had a somewhat Love Island-inspired spin-off reality series in the works, but this time geared more towards those looking for love in the middle of their lives – with reports originally surfacing back in July of 2022, and the first and second series then airing to great success in September of last and this year.
Comically dubbed “middle-aged Love Island” by viewers, the popular TV show sees a group of vibrant single parents from across the UK all meet under one roof to search for love in a safe space.
With a third series coming soon, the broadcaster has put out a nationwide casting call.

ITV is actively looking for dynamic parent and kid duos, including those from Greater Manchester, to consider popping an application in for the show.
A casting call on the ITV website reads: “My Mum, Your Dad is a relationship show which sees single parents spend two weeks looking for love in a romantic countryside retreat. This is the only show where single parents are helped on their dating journey by their grown up kids as they watch and guide them from a surveillance room down the road.
“If you trust your kids to help you or if you are desperate to see your parent find love, we want to hear from you.”
