Tommy Fury defeats Anthony Taylor in US boxing debut

The judges scored the fight 40-36 to Fury, extending his unbeaten record to seven fights.

Manchester’s Tommy Fury won his US boxing debut last night and remained undefeated after a unanimous decision against Anthony Taylor.

The former Love Island star, who is the younger brother of two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is now in hot pursuit of Jake Paul, who beat Tyron Woodley in the main event last night.

Fury’s opponent, who is Jake Paul’s sparring partner, made it a tough night for Tommy who had to settle for a points victory despite never being in trouble over four rounds.

Taylor, who was significantly smaller than Fury, was regularly in defensive mode and looked determined just get to the final bell from the first round.

It was frustrating for Tommy, who struggled to get shots off against the chaotic and much smaller Taylor – but there was no doubt who the winner was when the final bell rang.

The fight was reduced to a four-rounder from a six-rounder on short notice – Fury has never been beyond the fourth round in his short career yet.

The judges scored the fight 40-36 to Fury, extending his unbeaten record to seven fights.

50% of Mancs have apparently already given up their new year’s resolutions

We’re more than three weeks into 2025 now, and according to a new survey, half of Mancs have already ditched their new year’s resolutions.

New year’s resolutions are always made with the best intentions, and it’s not like we intentionally set ourselves up to fail with them, but more often than not, that tends to be the case – and now a new survey of 1,000 Brits carried out over the past few weeks has found that 35% of us have already admitted to giving them up.

That percentage rises to a whopping 50% when narrowed down to the people of Greater Manchester.

Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, and Glasgow are the other four major cities joining Manchester in the top five list of people in each area that have stopped their 2025 challenge early.

On the other end of the spectrum, it’s the cities of Southampton, Newcastle, and Edinburgh that are staying strong, with just 25%, 26% and 26% giving their new year’s resolutions up respectively, and some of the other northern cities on the list including Liverpool and Leeds.

According to new research from greetings card marketplace, Thortful, more than half of Brits (53%) expect to give up within the first three months of the year – with the hustle of busy schedules, work commitments, families, and social activities being given as reasons why.

When it comes to the reasons people provided for why they’ve given their resolutions up this year, lack of discipline tops the list at 43%, followed by just being too busy to consider them at 21%, and different mental or physical barriers in third place, as well as a change of personal circumstances and a lack of money also cited.

Looking forward to next year, it seems many of us want to reframe how we set our new year’s resolutions in the future.

According to the research, 32% of respondents want to “improve their existing qualities rather than set an unrealistic challenge” next time around, and 16% “feel like there’s social pressure to change in the new year”, when in reality, they “don’t have to.”

Manchester City have completed their third signing of the January transfer window as Omar Marmoush is officially a blue.

Joining Man City from Eintracht Frankfurt on a deal said to be worth around £59 million, he arrives at the Etihad just 48 hours after new defensive duo Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis were also revealed.

Agreeing to a four-and-a-half-year contract, Marmoush was the second-highest scorer in this current Bundesliga campaign (15), boasting 20 goals and 14 assists across all competitions already, so City fans can certainly expect plenty of attacking threat.

The fast and dynamic forward has mainly been deployed as a striker for Frankfurt but can play as inserted winger on either flank, giving Pep Guardiola‘s side another option.

Donning one of football’s most iconic shirts with the number seven (which has been vacant ever since Joao Cancelo left the club), the 25-year-old landed in Manchester with plenty of excitement as City were by no means the only Premier League outfit looking to secure his services.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool were said to be monitoring his situation as one of the most sought-after targets in Europe – the latter obviously rumoured to have expressed a vested interest given the impending departure of their talisman, Mo Salah.

‘The Egyptian King’ has been one of if not the best player in the league this season with 18 goals and a baker’s dozen assists so far but informed the leaders in this year’s title race that this would be his last year at the club.

Those sentimental enough amongst the red half of Merseyside were naturally hoping his compatriot Marmoush might make an ideal replacement and follow in the 32-year-old’s footsteps for the years to come, but the blue half of Manchester seem to have led the chase right from the off.

Nevertheless, Salah has more than left his mark on English football and his fellow national teammate has already been given the perfect nickname.

Speaking in his first interview as a City player, Marmoush said: “Representing my country at a big club like this was something I always dreamed of. [Now] my dreams are becoming a reality of being [the first Egyptian] at Manchester City and I hope I can keep up this level.

“The Premier League is for us in Egypt the biggest league and the most followed league because of my team-mates like Mo Salah and other Egyptian players that have played in the Premier League.

“Most of the players growing up, our dream is to be here and that is why it makes me so happy that I am here to reach this beautiful league.”

Elsewhere at the club, a loan deal for Kyle Walker to join AC Milan with an option to buy also looks to be all but done. Happy with the transfer business done so far, Blues?
