Manchester’s newest cinema is set to open on the roof of Depot Mayfield next month, as Backyard Cinema brings its immersive movie going experience to the north for the ver first time.
Coming to Manchester for a limited 10-week run, it will feature way more than a cosy purpose=built cinema room, coming complete with an Enchanted Forest, two bars, street food trucks and a live music stage to boot.
Due to open on Friday 21 October, the 330-capacity indoor cinema has just released its upcoming films for the Autumn / Winter season and there are some absolute crackers in there.
Movie fans should expect a mixture of brand new releases including the acclaimed Elvis biopic starring Tom Hanks (2022), the new Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and The Batman (2022), plus cult classics and Christmas hits later in the year.

The team has just teased out a list of cult classics too, including E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Die Hard (1988), Hocus Pocus (1993), Addams Family Values (1993), Beetlejuice (1988), plus other favourites such as The Greatest Showman (2017), Frozen 2 (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017).
Elsewhere, there’ll be a run of family favourites showing including The Greatest Showman (2017), Frozen 2 (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017), and the brand new Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022).
Then come Christmas time, organisers are planning to go all-out with screenings of festiva favourites like Elf (2003), Home Alone (1990), Love Actually (2003), The Holiday (2006), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)and Miracle on 34th Street (1947).
Audiences can expect to be transported on a magical journey to a cinema like no other, with waiter service inside the cosy screening room ensuring they don’t need to miss a second of the action.
Filled with custom-made giant bean bag seating for guests to get cosied up in with ushers serving seasonal cocktails and sweet treats to create the most magical place to watch a movie, this is one winter experience you won’t want to miss.
Backyard Cinema will open from Wednesday to Sunday, starting from 21 October until 4 December, and from Monday to Sunday, from 5 December until 2 January. Show times are 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm, although these will vary depending on the day.

Darts returns to Manchester as Premier League dates are confirmed for 2026

The schedule for the 2026 Premier League Darts tour has been officially announced, with the PDC’s annual championship returning to Manchester once again.
PDC Premier League fixtures continue to grow in popularity both in TV figures and live match attendance, with a whole new generation of fans getting into ‘the arrows’.
Just as it has for decades now, league darts is coming back to Manchester city centre and the legendary AO Arena once again, with our date landing right in the middle of the season.
Booking a big night right in the middle of a crucial period in the competition? It sounds like 0161 is set to welcome another blockbuster night up at the oche.
Confirmed on Thursday, 11 September, next year’s PDC Premier League Darts campaign will get underway in February, spanning the course of four months and eight countries.
Of the European cities on the circuit, the tournament will be heading to Belgium for the very first time, as the AFAS Dome in Antwerp replaces Exeter.
Elsewhere on the continent, there are two other mainland evenings in Germany and the Netherlands, along with multiple Northern dates here in the UK, such as Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield.
As for Manchester, we’ve been selected for round nine of 17 (including the finals), with the AO Arena set to welcome multiple favoured competitors from the North West, including 18-year-old phenomenon Luke Little from down the road in Warrington, as well as Stockport’s very own Nathan Aspinall.
It was an unforgettable experience for Aspinall last time around in his local event, as he finally managed to win a PDC Premier League night on home turf for the first time in his career.
Those hoping to enjoy a night of darts in front of a Manchester crowd on April 26, 2026, still have to be patient for now, as general admission is still a little way off.

Halloween is soon set to return to the city, and dozens of huge inflatable monsters will be invading Manchester next month.
Yes, it’s that time of year yet again… the monsters are back.
After several years of looming over Manchester‘s most-notable rooftops and lurking around famous city centre sites, it’s been revealed that the iconic MCR Monsters will be returning for another year of spooky celebrations next month, along with loads of other terrifying tricks and treats – with something for the whole family to get involved with.
Organisers Manchester BID are set to turn the city centre into a ‘monstrous playground’ once the free two-day festival of frightful fun returns.

This year’s annual Halloween in the City celebrations will feature a week-long colourful invasion of the MCR Monsters, following the two-day family festival across the city’s popular shopping destinations.
For the first time ever, the epic MCR Monsters – which are created by talented local artists, Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas – will invade the city’s rooftops and buildings on the opening day of the Halloween in the City festival.
They’ll be taking over leading locations including Manchester Arndale, Selfridges, The Royal Exchange, KAMPUS, and AO Arena – with more terrifying takeovers yet to be announced.
A slimy creature will also be on the loose across the city centre, as ‘The Leech’ – a wriggling eight metre-long monster, created and produced by Walk the Plank – makes its anticipated return.
As for other spine-chilling activities over the weekend-long festival, you can expect family games, storytelling, and the bone-rattling Monster Party Procession, complete with giant puppet monsters, stilt walkers, and a live band.
Then as night falls, the city will glow ‘eerie green’ as iconic buildings light up in spooky style.
To finish things off, thousands of pumpkin lanterns will, once again, line the city’s shopping streets to add a ‘flicker of fun’ to the festival celebrations.
Halloween in the City festival will take over Manchester city centre on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October, and MCR Monsters will be in town from Saturday 25 – Friday 31 October.
The pumpkins may potentially appear even earlier, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled.
