A local dad has drawn a crazily good portrait of Marcus Rashford and the reaction has been so incredible that he was invited along to meet the man himself, as well as various members of the Manchester United team.
Jasen Jackiw, 38, is a business owner and dad of two from Hale who also happens to turn his hand to fine art from time to time. And when we say fine art, we mean it in every sense of the word.
Sharing a timelapse of how he created the unbelievable portrait entitled over countless hours, Jasen simply captioned the post: “The journey watch worth it!”
Titling the piece Be a King, the portrait was done entirely in pencil and charcoal and was “framed professionally with a high-end black gloss finish with silver trim and white gloss inner frame”, which he admits “wasn’t cheap”. It’s clear that a lot of time and love went into this.

Pictured as a reflection of the king of the jungle, both individual drawings are just as impressive as each other, completed to a truly remarkable level of detail. Jasen said he started the project in lockdown, gradually doing an hour or two here and there when he had some spare time. Quite the undertaking.
Posting the final image on social media, the Greater Manchester dad said he wanted to make Rashford aware of it for no other reason than to simply “shake his hand and thank him for his England, United efforts and all he does for the community”, offering the portrait as a token of appreciation.

He got his wish and then some, as both he and his family were invited along to meet Rashford and the rest of the United squad.
Getting a call from the club just a day after sharing his artwork, Jasen and his son Masen were invited to meet Man United’s number 10 and the rest of the Red Devils down at the team’s AON Training Complex in Carrington.
Speaking to the MEN, Jasen went on to say: “My son was half crying at this point we couldn’t believe what was happening. We met the manager and the team and they all had a photograph with my boy.

“What a dream day it was. We were able to stay to watch them train. We sat in the car afterwards and my son said ‘I can’t believe what’s just happened dad’.” The stuff of dreams not only for the artistic dad but his little lad as well — you love to see it.

It’s that time of year once again… Manchester Christmas Markets are here for 2025.
The iconic annual event is an absolute staple in Manchester’s festive events calendar, and always draws in thousands of visitors from all across the globe – with hundreds of stalls across several sites now lining the streets of our city this year.

What’s a festive season in the city without Skate Manchester?
Back once again for 2025, ready for families, friends, and festive fun seekers to enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas, Skate Manchester is festive staple in Cathedral Gardens, and skaters can expect to glide across a gleaming ice path and spin around a dazzling seven-metre Christmas tree taking centre stage in the middle of the rink for another year.
This year, there’s also a giant turbine by Octopus Energy that’s partially-powering the rink too, and you can skate around it while enjoying the ski scene in the globe.

The magical Land of Lights has returned to Gulliver’s World once again.

Alongside returning favourites, visitors can now experience all-new lanterns filled with light and colour inspired by the wonders of nature.
The legendary Disney Store is now back in our city.
‘A Most Magical Christmas’ has landed at Selfridges Exchange Square and Trafford Centre, and both of the stores have been transformed into winter wonderlands – with limited-edition Disney favourites, pin badges, plush toys, and of course, the famous headbands.

The Oast House’s popular teepee draped in twinkling lights is back for the festive season.
Complete with two roaring fires, twinkling fairy lights, faux fur throws, The Teepee is made up of four tents joined together to create a huge open hub, complete with a stage area for guests to dance the night away in festive spirit.
It’s all sounding set to be a popular spot for locals and those who’ve finished a hard day at work during the autumn and winter months.
Chester Zoo has, once again, teamed up with entertainment giants Sony Music to deliver this year’s Lanterns and Light spectacle.
Over the past couple of years, Lanterns and Light has proved to be such a success that it’s developed into one of the North West’s biggest and longest-running festive light trails, and all profits from the event support the zoo’s charitable mission to prevent wildlife extinction.
And 2025 is set to be absolutely no different.

One of winter’s top events, Yuletide, is returning to Tatton Park Gardens this weekend.
The magical winter adventure will once again bring a glittering light trail and theatrical, immersive performance to the famous beauty spot.
This unique fusion of Christmas light trail and winter family festival is now in its third year, and will debut brand-new features and performances for 2025. As visitors wander the Yuletide event, they’ll be treated to everything from sparkling light installations to impressive fire juggling shows.
The Manchester Derby in a Barclays Women’s Super League campaign will be kicking off this coming Saturday, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most tightly contested in some time – with multiple Lionesses and international stars on show.
Set to be an unmissable meeting between the two heavyweights of the female, the 1:30pm kick-off leaves plenty of time for added fanfare before and after either whistle.

Things are getting all festive in Stockport, as more than 50 free shows and hundreds of performers descend on the town centre.

Did you see that Manchester’s libraries are set to become ‘warm spaces’ with free hot drinks and WiFi this winter?
After millions of local residents have visited the ‘stigma-free safe spaces’ to escape and take refuge from the cold each year since they were first introduced in 2022, Manchester City Council has decided to reintroduce its popular ‘Warm Welcome Spaces’ scheme once again this year.
All 22 of Manchester’s public libraries are, once again, taking part in the scheme this time around.
Free hot drinks, WiFi and internet access, data SIM cards, and newspapers are just some of the things people can make the most of inside these ‘warm spaces’, as well as get access to information, advice, and extra signposting to other support services they made need in the city.

A Queer Eye favourite is bringing his first-ever UK comedy tour here to Manchester

A much-loved member of the Queer Eye cast is set to embark on his debut UK comedy tour and is bringing his live stand-up gig to Manchester crowds.
If you’ve ever seen the successful Netflix reboot of the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, which aired its first season back in 2003, you’ll know that one of the biggest characters on the show is Jonathan Van Ness.
Known as the grooming expert on the series, Van Ness is just as popular a TV personality among fans as he is on the programme and in the entertainment industry itself.
He’s also got a pretty decent funny bone on him, too, and we’re glad to see he’s finally bringing his comic chops across the pond.
This is by no means the first time ‘JvN’ has leaned into the comedic side of his talents, having previously worked on the cult favourite digital web series Gay of Thrones, as well as his own Netflix documentary, Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness, which also has plenty of humour.
It’s also not his inaugural hour of stand-up either, as he released his maiden special, Fun & Slutty with Jonathan Van Ness, in his hometown of Austin, Texas, this past December.
Since then, he’s also started his own podcast called Getting Better with Jonathan Van Ness – available via BBC Sounds – which also features a fair few jokes every week.
Put simply, the 38-year-old hairstylist and presenter is much more than that: he’s becoming an increasingly convincing jack of all trades, and we’re absolutely here for it.
