It’s finally starting to feel like spring is in full swing now, isn’t it?
The turn of the season has already brought with it food festivals, cultural celebrations, annual events, and so much more, and thankfully, there’s loads more in the Greater Manchester social calendar for everyone of all ages to be getting involved with throughout this week too.

A brand-new art exhibition curated by visual artist Emma Evans in partnership with six other creators is now open in Manchester, and it’s completely free to visit.
Tales of Manchester 2.0 down at Kimpton Clocktower Hotel is a collection of multi-platform art celebrating our brilliant city, and it’s showcasing six spoken word pieces by established Manchester based poets – Griot Gabriel, Ilaria Passeri, Lisa O’Hare, Mark Jackson aka Keith’s Brother, Matt Concannon aka The Thirsty Poet, and Sarah Attwell.
The spoken word is paired with visual pieces painted by self-taught artist Emma Evans, where the words have served as inspiration for the art.

Pieminister’s legendary pie bottomless brunch with free-flowing drinks has finally made a comeback.

The popular pie restaurant chain – which has two sites here in Manchester city centre on Church Street in the Northern Quarter, and on Deansgate – is known and loved all across the UK for its thick and chunky pies, but its bottomless brunch offering is something else.

Manchester Open Exhibition is back for the third time in our city.
Taking place every two years down at HOME, the Open Exhibition is the biggest celebration of Greater Manchester’s creative talent, and sees HOME’s Gallery walls filled with 480 artworks created by the people of our region that have been specially-selected by a panel consisting of art experts and community representatives.
Open to all, the Exhibition brings together artwork including paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, digital and mixed media, video, audio, and so much more.
Manchester never looks better than it does when all the blossom trees burst back to life, right? Well now there’s a walking trail through town that shows off the best bits.
From the iconic purple blooms outside the Central Library, to the surprising sprays that pop up in the middle of Ancoats, there are pretty colours appearing all over, so the National Trust is once again shining a spotlight on Manchester and bringing back its new-and-improved Bloomtown Map.
There are 39 spots all over the city centre (and slightly beyond) included along the route, each one showcasing one of the city’s most picturesque locations.
A plant paradise will be created in Manchester this week, as the inaugural RHS Urban Show takes over Depot Mayfield.
The huge event is the charity’s first large-scale indoor show ever, and it’s been created to celebrate the growing urban gardening movement, so whether you’re cramming a tropical jungle onto your balcony, or you’re just trying to bring a little plant life into your home, the RHS Urban Show will have exhibits to educate and inspire you.
You can learn the secrets to growing happy houseplants, see vertical structures for awkward urban spaces, explore a seven-garden vision for a greener city, and so much more.
The Botanist has brought back The Botanist LIVE to “help everyone celebrate summer” with free live music every weekend.
Set to “supply the soundtrack to your weekend” every Friday and Saturday night, The Botanist’s talented artists are set to play live from 8pm until late, and guests can expect a vibrant party atmosphere with sounds of rock, pop, soul, R&B, funk, disco, and blues.
The events are not ticketed and are free to attend, so all you need to do is turn up and wait for its house band get the party started.

Photography students from The Manchester College will be showcasing their ‘Greater Mancunians’ project as part of a landmark exhibition at Manchester Central Library’s Main Exhibition Hall from this week.

150 students have participated in the groundbreaking photography project, and it features images of some of Manchester’s most famous and influential people shot at numerous locations across the city.
More than 100 contributors are featured in the project, including musicians Noel Gallagher and Johnny Marr, athletes Diane Modahl and Ricky Hatton, local politicians Andy Burnham, Angela Rayner, and Bev Craig, actors Maxine Peake and Bill Roache, artists Stan Chow and AKSE P-19, and other local figures like Jonathan Warburton, Simon Martin, and Professor Erinma Bell MBE.

From the moment we start to feel the weekend rolling in, we can’t help but turn our thoughts to Sunday roasts, steaming jugs of gravy, and big glasses sploshing over with red wine.

It’s just the best feeling, and there’s plenty of it to be found here in our region.
We’re used to it being wet and miserable most of the year, and while we do love Sunday lunch on a sun-soaked afternoon in the beer garden when we get the chance, nothing warms the cockles more on those darker days than a giant plate piled high with roasted meats, vegetables, and gravy.

Manchester’s iconic Victoria Baths will be hosting a festival filled with live music, art exhibitions, street food, and more this weekend.
All set to transform the beautiful Grade II-listed building into a cultural hub for the day, and gearing up to “put a spring in the step” of the Greater Manchester public, Victoria Baths’ SpringFest is returning for 2024 this Saturday with a jam-packed lineup of events celebrating music and art from across the region and beyond.
Tickets will be available at the door on the day, but organisers say booking in advance for £8 is “recommended” to secure your spot.
Did you know that April is actually National Pet Month?
Well, in a bid to properly celebrate in the best way possible, MediaCity has decided to host a handful of different dog-friendly events down at Central Bay’s newly-opened Kargo MKT overlooking the Salford Quays waterfront this Sunday.
On the lineup is the first ever ‘Furry Friends Market’ featuring 10 local traders offering all things pet-related, including treats, artwork, accessories, and more – which is free to attend – as well as the bound-to-be-popular ‘Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea’ party especially for four four-legged friends, with tickets on sale and available from £12.
Did you see that one of the biggest charity shops has just opened here in Greater Manchester?
The independently-run Regenerage superstore is the newest resident at the massively-popular Middlebrook Retail Park in Bolton.
Inside the huge 10,958 sq ft store, shoppers can find everything from ladies and menswear, to homeware, furniture, and children’s clothing too, plus books, and new white goods – including washing machines, fridge freezers, and more.
There’s also a specially-created bridal and occasional wear department too.
And if all of that didn’t sound brilliant enough as it is, there’s even the chance to get your hands on designer brands like Vivienne Westwood, Ralph Lauren, and Armani, all without the hefty price tag.

Little Mancs who love LEGO can take part in an interactive building workshops in Manchester this weekend.
As part of the launch of The LEGO Group’s new campaign aimed at championing and standing up for girls’ creativity, and in a bid to encourage children across Greater Manchester and the rest of the UK to “play without limits”, a ‘LEGO Creativity Workshop’ is being held down at the Trafford Centre this Sunday.
Kids will get to build a photo frame to display a picture of an achievement, their friends and family, or anything they want to celebrate.
The best bit? The workshop is free to attend, and you’ll just need to book a place online.

Popular Manchester wine bar The Beeswing down at Kampus has just launched a new ‘Spanish Bottomless Brunch’.
Called ‘Domingo’ – which means ‘Sunday’ in Spanish, and now running every Sunday until the summer and beyond – the brand-new event features a curated collection of classic Spanish brunch dishes to be served alongside free-flowing mimosas, sangria, and Bloody Marys for the pretty-impressive price of just £35 per person.
Hungry foodie fans can take their pick from a menu of Spanish-inspired brunch dishes like smoky shakshuka, and Ibérico eggs benedict, all while sipping on 90-minutes worth of drinks.

First look at Albert Square as Manchester Christmas Markets return to their spiritual home

Manchester Christmas Markets are back and all our Christmas wishes have come true, as its spiritual home Albert Square joins in on the festivities for the first time in six years.
Grab a mulled wine, toast yourself a marshmallow and take a seat, because we’re going to take you on a quick tour of this brand-new offering.
You’ll be able to tick off your Christmas Markets wish list in one place, as Manchester has got all your usual favourites and so much more taking place right here outside of its iconic Town Hall.
As soon as you walk in you’re greeted by a huge sign spelling out the city’s iconic abbreviation ‘MCR’, just in case you forgot where you were, that also doubles as a nice photo opportunity.

As you walk into Albert Square there’s a mix of nostalgic wooden huts and brightly coloured modern street food vendor stations waiting to tempt you with all their tasty treats.
There’s no messing around at this Christmas hotspot because not even 10 feet after you enter, you can warm up with a glühwein and bratwurst, yes please.
Think you’re done sampling some festive feasts? Think again as there’s a marshmallow toasting station, a roasted chestnut cart and lots of huts are offering their own hot chocolate creations.
Local street food vendor Rita’s Reign has made her mark in Albert Square too, serving up her foodie feasts with a seasonal spin such as the ‘Festive Feast’ and ‘Christmas Crunch’ combo boxes.

As you keep making your way round there’s some lovely gifts and trinkets to browse including tree decorations, ornaments and some vibrant pieces of art.
There’s plenty of ways to keep the kids (and big kids) entertained with some carnival-themed games and stalls as well as a vintage carousel, if that doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit what else will?
Of course, there’s even more food to mention like mini dutch pancakes, toasted sandwiches, French toast, the list is endless (Much like many of our Christmas lists).
And we couldn’t finish our visit without acknowledging the elephant in the room, also known as The Manchester Big Wheel, which is the perfect people-watching spot, but maybe hop on this ride before you try all the tasty treats mentioned above.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas across Greater Manchester, as there’s now dozens of light trails, festive events, and, of course, Manchester Christmas Markets having just got underway for 2025, so of course there’s lots to be getting up to throughout our region this week.

It’s that time of year once again… Manchester Christmas Markets are here for 2025.
The iconic annual event is an absolute staple in Manchester’s festive events calendar, and always draws in thousands of visitors from all across the globe – with hundreds of stalls across several sites now lining the streets of our city this year.
Visitors can tuck into a wide range of festive foods and drinks, and shop for Christmas gifts from countless independent traders.

What’s a festive season in the city without Skate Manchester?
Back once again for 2025, ready for families, friends, and festive fun seekers to enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas, Skate Manchester is festive staple in Cathedral Gardens, and skaters can expect to glide across a gleaming ice path and spin around a dazzling seven-metre Christmas tree taking centre stage in the middle of the rink for another year.
This year, there’s also a giant turbine by Octopus Energy that’s partially-powering the rink too, and you can skate around it while enjoying the ski scene in the globe.

The magical Land of Lights has returned to Gulliver’s World once again.
After proving to be a huge success the past two years, the one-mile trail showcases a huge array of lanterns and displays, creating a wondrous, wild, and magical atmosphere that’s suitable for all ages, and this year, there’s even some new additions.
Alongside returning favourites, visitors can now experience all-new lanterns filled with light and colour inspired by the wonders of nature.
The legendary Disney Store is now back in our city.
‘A Most Magical Christmas’ has landed at Selfridges Exchange Square and Trafford Centre, and both of the stores have been transformed into winter wonderlands – with limited-edition Disney favourites, pin badges, plush toys, and of course, the famous headbands.
There’s even Selfridges x Disney toys too, with the Winnie the Pooh range in iconic Selfridges yellow. Plus, you can take your gifts home in Disney branded bags.
Welcome to Tangerine – the new multi-purpose food, drink, entertainment, and leisure destination that’s just opened up opposite Salford Central.
There’s resident kitchens, a live music hall, an arthouse stage, a speciality martini bar, and so much more. Plus, upstairs there’s even a cosy cheese and wine lounge area… tis the season, after all.

The Teepee

The Oast House’s popular teepee draped in twinkling lights is back for the festive season.
Complete with two roaring fires, twinkling fairy lights, faux fur throws, The Teepee is made up of four tents joined together to create a huge open hub, complete with a stage area for guests to dance the night away in festive spirit.
It’s all sounding set to be a popular spot for locals and those who’ve finished a hard day at work during the autumn and winter months.
Chester Zoo has, once again, teamed up with entertainment giants Sony Music to deliver this year’s Lanterns and Light spectacle.
Over the past couple of years, Lanterns and Light has proved to be such a success that it’s developed into one of the North West’s biggest and longest-running festive light trails, and all profits from the event support the zoo’s charitable mission to prevent wildlife extinction.
And 2025 is set to be absolutely no different.
This year’s trail will see the zoo transform into a spectacular winter wonderland with colour-changing forests, glowing animals, show-stopping puppets and, brand-new for this year, a host of new immersive installations.

Yuletide 2025

One of winter’s top events, Yuletide, is returning to Tatton Park Gardens this weekend.
The magical winter adventure will once again bring a glittering light trail and theatrical, immersive performance to the famous beauty spot.
This unique fusion of Christmas light trail and winter family festival is now in its third year, and will debut brand-new features and performances for 2025. As visitors wander the Yuletide event, they’ll be treated to everything from sparkling light installations to impressive fire juggling shows.
The Manchester Derby in a Barclays Women’s Super League campaign will be kicking off this coming Saturday, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most tightly contested in some time – with multiple Lionesses and international stars on show.
Set to be an unmissable meeting between the two heavyweights of the female, the 1:30pm kick-off leaves plenty of time for added fanfare before and after either whistle.
Not only will there be fun games at half-time for the little ones and lots of live entertainment, but there’ll also be a wide range of food and drink around the concourse, so you just know it’s going to be a great day out.
Things are getting all festive in Stockport, as more than 50 free shows and hundreds of performers descend on the town centre.
Back by popular demand to kick off Christmas in style, Stockport’s Spectacular Sunday will be returning this weekend for a one-day festival packed with magical street theatre, banging brass bands, carnival fun, and loads more.
Hundreds of captivating performers will take over Stockport for the day, with another new lineup for 2025 promising something for the whole family.
Did you see that Manchester’s libraries are set to become ‘warm spaces’ with free hot drinks and WiFi this winter?
After millions of local residents have visited the ‘stigma-free safe spaces’ to escape and take refuge from the cold each year since they were first introduced in 2022, Manchester City Council has decided to reintroduce its popular ‘Warm Welcome Spaces’ scheme once again this year.
All 22 of Manchester’s public libraries are, once again, taking part in the scheme this time around.
Free hot drinks, WiFi and internet access, data SIM cards, and newspapers are just some of the things people can make the most of inside these ‘warm spaces’, as well as get access to information, advice, and extra signposting to other support services they made need in the city.
Summer may be over, but guess what? Now that autumn is well and truly here, that means we get to wear layers, cosy up in our favourite places, and eat heartwarming plates piled high with all the major food groups.
Whether you want the likes of Banyan’s bottomless Yorkshire puddings bigger than your head, or swapping your meat out for a pie (you heard us), we’ve got something to suit everyone… you can even get dog roasts too, if you ask The Refuge nicely.

The Northern Quarter’s legendary Neapolitan pizzeria Ciaooo has just released its autumn menu, and it’s everything we’ve been missing and more.

How is it November already? Time really does fly when you eat good food.
Cosy season is well and truly here, and with things getting colder and colder outside, our dishes of choice are getting hotter and hotter.
We feasted again last month, on everything from savoury pastries, and steaming noodles and broths, to spooky sweet treats, and everything in between… we really were eating good in October.
