Urgent appeal issued following the death of a man on tram lines in Salford Quays

An urgent appeal for information has been issued following the death of a man on tram lines this past weekend.

It comes after Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a man on the tram lines close to the Harbour City Metrolink tram stop in Salford Quays at around 10:25pm last Sunday (20 October) – but sadly, when officers arrived on the scene, the man was pronounced dead.

It is believed that the man, who was in his 40s, may have collapsed or fallen onto the tracks, before proceeding to be hit by a tram.

At this time, no arrests have been made and an investigation is currently ongoing.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for anyone to come forward and assist with investigations, so that officers can work to establish what happened and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are now appealing for anyone with information to please come forward,” the GMP appeal reads. “This includes any relevant CCTV footage from the surrounding areas.”

Sam Fender under fire following outrage over ticket prices for his upcoming tour

North East superstar Sam Fender is no stranger to visiting our bustling city but this time fans of the singer are upset with the prices of tickets for his upcoming tour.

The Seventeen Going Under hitmaker has come under fire the past few days due to the ‘excessive’ and ‘hypocritical’ pricing of tickets for his upcoming tour.

Earlier this month, the Geordie rock singer started teasing his tour through visuals displayed around suspected venues for his upcoming tour, with one appearing just outside of Co-op Live.

Simply titled the ‘People Watching Tour’, Fender has announced dates and tickets for his 2024 Winter tour with prices reaching £80 and above.

The Newcastle musician is known for having a high majority of working-class fans and these are the very people criticising these ticket prices.

Another big demographic for Fender fanatics is students. They too play a huge factor in the star’s career, making up a large proportion of the rock singer’s fanbase.

Fender has been vocal throughout his career about giving back to charities and organisations with two 2020 singles raising money for separate causes.

He joined the Foo Fighters ‘Times Like These’ celebrity cover recording as part of BBC Radio One’s Live Lounge Allstars project during the pandemic to raise money for both Children In Need and Comic Relief.

In November of the same year, he also distributed ‘Winter Song’ with the single being used to raise money for The Big Issue, a charity known for creating opportunities for people experiencing homelessness across the UK.

Some have come out to defend the 30-year-old by arguing that tour pricing has more to do with management, promoters and venues than it does with the artists themselves.

Nevertheless, lots of fans have still taken issue with Fender over the ticket prices, especially given the working-class nature of not only his background but the content of his music, insisting instead that Sam and plenty of other artists do have a say over costs.

Announcing shows in Leeds, Birmingham, Glasgow and one right here in Manchester at the already world-leading Co-op Live arena this winter, this is the ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ singer’s most high-profile UK tour to date.

With the scramble for pre-sale codes already having caused plenty of panic online and with the increasingly popular Wunderhorse once again set to serve as the main support act on his first tour since Spring 2022, tickets are set to be in serious demand.

The Newquay-founded band have seen acclaim and accolades this year with their latest project, Midas, even gaining the title of ‘greatest gig of my life’ by one member of our very own Audio North team.

With dates throughout the festive period this year, Fender is set to begin his tour on 2 December with the Newcastle date on 20 December undergoing balloted tickets due to demand to watch him play the massive gig in his hometown.

Last-minute tickets up for grabs for Greater Manchester’s spooky steam train rides this Halloween

One of Greater Manchester’s most-popular Halloween events returns this weekend, and there’s still tickets up for grabs.

East Lancashire Railway‘s (ELR) eerie ghost trains are a spooky season tradition at this point.

The heritage railway’s Halloween Ghost Trains always prove to be top of the Halloween bucket list for people looking for “loads of spooktacular fun” once the scariest time of year rolls around, and 2024 is expected to be no different – especially as there’s set to be “fresh twists and new surprises” to celebrate ‘Year of the Pumpkin’.

While some little Mancs are already on October half term, and with the rest set to break up from school this Friday, the spooky steam train rides will be happening from 24-26 October this year, with special trains running on Halloween itself (31 October).

Got the guts for the ride of a lifetime?

In this year’s event, the railway will be transformed with elaborate decorations and eerie lighting, and visitors are encouraged to ensure that “no ghouls fly under the radar”.

Those brave enough at lending Zombie Bob and the ‘Monster Squad’ a helping hand at banishing ghosts and ghouls will be whisked away on a haunted steam engine through the atmospheric Greater Manchester countryside.

You’ll first start off the experience with a pumpkin-themed haunted house walkthrough over the ghoulishly-decorated footbridge at Bury Bolton Street Station, all before you hop on a 60-minute spooky steam train ride to the Irwell Vale and back.

As you take in the autumn sights and delights of the local countryside out the historic steam train’s windows, there’ll be lots of spooky entertainment and music along the way, and, as it always is each year, screaming and singalongs are to be expected too – and encouraged – as this is all part of the experience.

Families are also encouraged to “show off your spookiest fancy dress” on the day, and if you make it to the end, then a goody bag for every child “full of tricks and treats” awaits.
