This will include several double trams operating between Altrincham-Etihad Campus, Bury-Piccadilly, and to East Didsbury.
The confirmation of the continuation of the well-received services comes as TfGM has also announced this week that more frequent and extended Metrolink services are being introduced in the new year too, in a bid to cater for and meet increased public demand – with the number of passengers travelling by tram across Greater Manchester continuing to grow, and some now even reaching the same levels as pre-pandemic.
Good news! In the New Year there will be changes to the tram service including a new six-minute service between Etihad Campus and Manchester City centre from 7am.
The late-night trams will also keep running along with more trams on the Altrincham and Bury lines.
This means that, from Tuesday 2 January 2024, a revamped timetable will see a new six-minute service between Etihad Campus and Manchester city centre from 7am until the end of service, which will be made possible by extending Altrincham-Piccadilly services to the Etihad Campus at the following times:

After the termination of MediaCityUK-Etihad Campus peak service (after 8pm Monday to Friday, and after 6:30pm on Saturdays) until the end of service
All-day on Sundays
There will also be an uplift in the number of trams operating on the Altrincham and Bury lines too, after TfGM says it has seen “encouraging signs of passenger growth”, with double trams set to operate between the newly-extended Altrincham-Etihad Campus service, as well as Bury-Piccadilly services, once 2024 arrives.

Between Monday and Saturday, double trams will operate from the start of service on the Bury-Piccadilly and Altrincham-Piccadilly lines, with doubles introduced on Altrincham-Etihad Campus services after 6:30pm too.

And then on Sundays, there’ll be a mixture of single and double trams – with the majority being doubles – between Altrincham-Etihad Campus, and Bury-Piccadilly.
Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, says he’s “delighted” that more Metrolink services are being added in the new year, as the public transport system “provides a vital connection” for people travelling between the north and south of the region.
“These changes, combined with the late-night trams, will provide a real boost to regular passengers,” he concluded.

Get ready to spend the summer in space, as the Science and Industry Museum has announced its summer events programme and it’s full of free interactive events and activities to get involved with these next six weeks.
From live space shows and giant rockets, to tinkering activities Martian discovery trails, and the chance to visit the blockbuster exhibition Horrible Science: Cosmic Chaos if you haven’t already, budding astronauts are in for a summer to remember.
By far one of the stand-out free events this summer is the arrival of 30-foot-tall rocket ship, Skybolt 2 – hosted by Manchester-based aerospace company, Starchaser.

Thrill seekers, this one’s for you – as Zip World Manchester has launched its new Forest Tubing experience, and it’s bringing the UK’s longest outdoor tubing slide is coming to Heaton Park.
The new family‑friendly outdoor adventure gives visitors the chance to soar along two slides, winding through woodland at one of the largest parks in the North West.
Suitable for children aged four and above, visitors can book an hour-long session – with unlimited rides during that time slot – and either ride solo, or share the experience with fellow adventurers.
Chester Zoo is keeping its gates open late into the evening across two special weeks this summer.
The UK’s biggest charity zoo has announced the return of Afterglow, which is known and loved for offering visitors the rare opportunity to explore the zoo and its 30,000 animals after hours.
Unlike previous years, visitors will no longer need to leave Chester Zoo’s grounds and return with a separate event ticket. Instead, guests can spend the entire day exploring the zoo before enjoying Afterglow‘s evening programme, all as part of a standard admission ticket.
Manchester is bringing 14 weeks of free activities for children to parks across the city this summer.
Thanks to additional Council funding that was allocated earlier this year, Manchester’s biggest-ever Parktastic programme has now launched – expanding from the summer holidays alone to include after-school sessions before schools break up, activities throughout the holidays, and even sessions continuing into September.
Back by popular demand and aimed at children ages six-12, Parktastic offers sports, games, arts and crafts, dance, drama, nature activities, storytelling and messy play.

Sessions are free, no booking is required, healthy snacks are provided, and children can simply turn up and join in.

Forbici is now open at the Trafford Centre, and of course, staying true to its name, every pizza is served with a pair of scissors for cutting.

Multi-million pound rail upgrades to cancel trains on major Manchester lines this month

Multi-million pound railway upgrades will take place in Greater Manchester from this weekend.
In a bid to enhance future journeys for both passengers and freight as part of its ongoing summer improvement projects, Network Rail has announced that it will be carrying out major track upgrades in two locations travelling in and out of Manchester this summer.
Starting from this weekend (8-9 August) and then again the following weekend on 15-16 August, a railway junction will be replaced near Guide Bridge, and while the work takes place, no trains will be able to run on the Glossop/Hadfield or Rose Hill Marple lines in or out of Manchester Piccadilly station over both weekends.
Rail replacement buses are planned to keep passengers on the move – but people advised to plan ahead and allow ‘extra time’ for their journeys.

The second major scheme will see a midweek closure of the line between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale when engineers return to install a new railway turnback.
While this is being carried out, no trains will run from Monday 10 August until the morning of Saturday 15 August, and once again rail replacement buses are planned to serve the route instead.
Network Rail is thanking passengers in advance for their cooperation.
“We know there’s never an ideal time to shut the railway, so I’d like to thank passengers in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential railway improvements next week,” commented Lorna Samways, who is a senior sponsor at Network Rail.
“Both projects are major investments to improve rail journeys for passengers and freight in future.
“I’d advise passengers planning to travel between 8-16 August to check National Rail Enquiries so they know exactly what to expect from their journey.”
