Popular ‘after hours’ event for adults returns to Manchester’s Science and Industry Museum

Emily Sergeant Emily Sergeant - 21st August 2024

One of the Science and Industry Museum’s most popular events is returning to Manchester tomorrow for a very special reason.

In a bid to mark the annual Manchester Pride celebrations happening across the city centre this August bank holiday weekend, and to celebrate the power of authentic LGBTQ+ spoken storytelling at the same time, the iconic Museum is hosting another one of its much-loved ‘after hours’ events, especially for adults.

This is your chance to explore the Science and Industry Museum once the doors normally close to the general public, and immerse yourself in a dynamic programme of Pride-themed activities, demonstrations, and performances.

All set to be “an evening of inspiring stories”, you can expect to see LGBTQ+ professionals in STEM fields share their personal journeys through a series unique live performances on the night, as well as discover an inspiring new audio-visual exhibition called ‘PROUD’, which has been created by Heard Storytelling.

You’ll also be able to contribute to a community craft project inspired by the Museum’s textiles collection and the colourful traditions of the LGBTQ+ social movement.

Not only that, but you’ll also be able to add your creativity to a bespoke banner that will be proudly carried by the Science and Industry Museum team during the Manchester Pride parade this Saturday (24 August) too.

Tomorrow’s (22 August) after-hours event will also be your chance to indulge your inner child without all the actual children running around by exploring the Museum’s currently-running exhibitions like Power Up, playing with science in the interactive Experiment gallery, experiencing the thunderous sounds of historic machinery in the Textiles Gallery, and discovering “ideas that changed the world” in the Revolution Manchester gallery.

And of course, because this is an event especially for adults, the Museum’s events bar will be popping up too, and selling a range of wines, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks.

Fancy it then? Museum After Hours is happening down at the Science and Industry Museum tomorrow (Thursday 22 August) from 6pm-9pm, and there’s still time to grab tickets at just £10 per person.
