Manchester United man Lisandro Martinez absolutely made the day, perhaps even the whole year, of two young fans after stopping to sign their shirt at the weekend.
Following his team’s 3-1 home win over Reading on Saturday, 28 January, fans gathered around the exits of Old Trafford as they often do to try and spot the players leaving.
However, two passionate young Reds stood waiting in the cold and damp Manchester weather to see one man, Lisandro Martínez, and thankfully their wish came true
As you can see in the video below posted by the kids’ dad, Paul Barratt, Lisandro a.ka. ‘Licha’ is driving out of the ground when he spots the pair of wide-eyed United fans holding out their shirt and, well, you can guess the rest.
We’re not crying, you are — ah sod it, we all.
Martínez has been a fan favourite ever since he arrived at the club back in July 2022, showing just as much passion as he does quality in his performances, week in, week out (it’s no wonder he became a world champion with Argentina), and scenes like these will only make fans love him even more.
Writing on Twitter, chuffed dad paul thanked the 25-year-old for giving them a moment that will stay with them forever after the man himself responded to the now-viral video.
Nothing but wholesomeness over here.
Licha was rested as fellow South Americans, Casemiro and Fred, combined to put a trio of wonderful goals past the Berkshire side.
That is now 11 home wins in a row and just one loss and one draw in their last 13 games. Erik ten Hag‘s team currently sit fourth in the table, level on points with Newcastle and now into the fourth round of the FA Cup, as well as an EFL Cup final practically sealed.
Things are looking up for the red half of Manchester.
