Manchester United appear to have finally gotten their summer transfer business underway as they have reportedly agreed a £60 million deal to sign Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount.

The England and Premier League star is one of several Chelsea players been shown the door as the West London club look to balance the books amidst FFP concerns and offload the surplus of players amassed over the past couple of seasons.

With Todd Boehly’s team in obvious need of a clear-out and a restructure in general, Man United emerged as favourites to sign Mount over the past few weeks and despite having at least two initial offers rejected, it seems they have now made their first signing of the window.

The 24-year-old creative midfielder registered just three goals and half a dozen assists during the 23/24 campaign but, much like most Chelsea players last season, struggled to find any rhythm among a bloated and ever-changing squad. Whether he’ll rediscover his form at Old Trafford remains to be seen.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Mount is set to join United on a five-year contract for a fee of around £55m and a further £5m in add-ons, with personal terms having already been agreed weeks ago.

So, pending a medical, he’ll soon be swapping blue for red and the South for the North. He definitely won’t regret the latter.

The Red Devils did look to be in the market for another talented English midfielder in Declan Rice and have been one of many interested in him for some time now, but the West Ham captain looks to be on the verge of signing for Premier League runners-up Arsenal.
