Keen cooks from Manchester wanted for new series of Come Dine With Me

Come Dine With Me's casting directors are on the look out for new contestants who enjoy cooking with a competitive streak.

Keen cook? Know your way around the kitchen? Rate yourself as a bit of chef?

Well it’s time to put your money where your mouth is, as everyone’s favourite Channel 4 cooking competition Come Dine With Me is heading back to our TV screens for another new series, and people from Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas being encouraged to stick an application in.

Gearing up for its 18th and 19th series on air, producers ITV Studios and Come Dine With Me’s casting directors are currently on the look out for new contestants who enjoy cooking with a competitive streak.

First airing all the way back in 2005 and now having more series’ than we care to count, Come Dine With Me is a real pillar of British 00s television, with a voice-over presenter armed with a never-ending list of witty comments and comebacks, and a theme song that builds tension like no other.

It’s also known for having some of the quirkiest ‘characters’ to grace our television screens.

But while we all have our favourite contestants from over the years, there’s always room for more to make an impact – so if you consider yourself a decent home cook and reckon you can handle entertaining four strangers over the course of a week, what are you waiting for?

That £1,000 cash prize could be yours before you know it.

Oasis 25: Heaton Park send off Oasis like only Manchester could – with biblical rain

Oasis are well and truly back on top as they performed for the final night at Heaton Park and what could still be the very last time in Manchester.

There are countless moments every night that show how uniting this full-on cultural moment has been.

The guy in the wheelchair being lifted overhead by a group of strangers for a better view. The couple getting engaged before being enveloped in a sea of bucket hats. The thousands of people gathering on ‘Gallagher Hill’ every night just to be close to this historic music event.

Then the celeb-spotting too: Jack Grealish, Shaun Ryder and Andy Whyment off Corrie in the same frame of a video; Orlando Bloom waving at fans. Liam and Noel’s kids all together on a big cousins’ night out. It’s had it all.

For a lot of Mancs, the Oasis reunion has felt like Christmas morning ever since it was announced last year following a number of post-gig teasers like that Blossoms headliner at Wythenshawe Park.

And it certainly felt like that as we braved the soggy ground over at Heaton Park for their fifth and final live show in Manchester.

The atmosphere in the crowd was almost surreal, a mass of Britpop-loving super fans who have been waiting for this exact moment for almost twenty years – and you could tell.

As the brothers strutted on stage, hand in hand, a feeling of euphoric joy surged from the crowd of 80,000.

For two hours, they deliver anthem after anthem, each song transcending generations as the older lot look back to their ‘Live Forever’ days and the youth can’t quite wrap their head around the band in front of them being here and now.

Oasis are just as good as ever; Liam’s gritty vocals and Noel‘s ripping guitar slot together perfectly as though they were made for one another.

They’re loud and they’re unapologetic, they are the sound of the people, and we were absolutely lapping it up.

Every song was a hit, from bangers like ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’ to fan favourite ‘Live Forever’, and of course ‘Wonderwall’, the brothers gave the people exactly what they wanted.

Liam, maracas in hand and parka zipped to the top, not only might be the coolest man to walk the planet, but was undoubtedly born to be a frontman of a band. The head nods, the frowning eyebrows, the fists clenched behind his back – we were fully gripped by his sheer stage presence.

There was a moment where he put the tambourine in his mouth, closed his eyes and lifted his head to the sky, taking it all in and getting lost in the music – an icon.

And of course, in true Manc fashion, the heavens opened an hour into their set as the grey cloud everyone had an eye on took centre stage.

Did we care? No, we did not. It only made the moment that more special as we united as one unit, singing as loud as we could to combat the elements.

It’s clear to see how much Oasis means to so many; their music is embedded into the national psyche with a presence that simply defines generations.

Who knows when they’ll be performing back in Manchester again, and if this was their last time, then they can rest assured that by returning, they’ve made themselves the biggest band in the world again. And that’s an accolade they truly deserve.

Bryan Mbuemo transfer saga looks to finally be over as Manchester United agree deal with Brentford

In one of the biggest transfer sagas of the 2025 summer transfer window, it looks like Manchester United have got their man, as an agreement with Brentford FC is in place and a move for Bryan Mbuemo looks to be a done deal.

Following weeks and weeks of speculation, minor nudges back and forth in the market, it has now been reported that French-born Mbuemo is heading to Man United, having made it apparent that Old Trafford was his desired destination for some time.

As confirmed by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein on Friday, 18 July, the Cameroonian international is expected to be paid for in chunks over the next few years.

Having initially entered a bid of around £45 million before bonuses last month, the west London club stuck to their guns and appear to have got their overall asking price for the player.

According to Ornstein, a trusted transfer source and ever-reliable journalist, United are expected to pay Brentford an estimated £65m for Mbeumo’s signature.

However, with add-ons of approximately £6m, the attacking midfielder’s total price comes out at more than £70m, making his a fee a sales record for a now established Premier League side who have become known as a ‘feeder/selling club’ with excellent recruitment.

It is also said that MUFC and INEOS have arranged for a payment structure that will see the transfer funded over the course of four-year instalments, with a contract valid until 2030 and the option to extend by a further 12 months.

Well-known for using the so-called ‘Moneyball‘ model to their success in recent years, Mbuemo was signed by the Bees back in 2019, when they were still in the Championship, and he cost just £5.8m from ES Troyes AC – also a club record signing at the time.

Fast forward just a few seasons, not to mention 121 goal contributions in all competitions (28 of those coming last season alone), and he’s been deemed worth about 12 times that amount.

Here are just a few reasons why they’ve been after him.

Still just 25 years old, it’s fair to say he fits the balance of age and experience that the club are looking to recruit, as well as boasting a profile that suits the system Ruben Amorim is looking to deploy with his ever-shifting squad.

At least on paper, anyway.

Meanwhile, outgoing deals are still expected to be completed before the end of the summer window, with key first-team players like homegrown Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and loanee Antony all still expected to depart.
