Premier League football matches postponed as a mark of respect for HM Queen Elizabeth II
Last night's Manchester United match went ahead with players observing a minute's silence before kick-off.
This weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed out of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The decision has been announced following a meeting this morning, in which Premier League clubs paid tribute to The Queen.
Monday evening’s game will also be postponed.
Last night, Manchester United’s match against Real Sociedad went ahead as planned, with players and fans observing a minute’s silence and wearing black armbands.
The Premier League confirmed that they would postpone the rest of the week’s games ‘to honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation’.
Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive, said: “We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country.
