January might be associated with hibernating, but it’s actually the best time of year to eat out – restaurants and bars across Manchester are slashing their prices with special offers this month.

Right across the city centre, you’ll find generous discounts, special set menus, and other offers all the way through January, to help our local hospitality scene through famously one of the most difficult times of year.

You’ll be able to save cash on pizzas, curries, steaks, noodles, cocktails, brunches, and just about every kind of scran you can think of.

There are a lot of January offers to discover around Manchester, and it can get a bit overwhelming to narrow it all down, so we’ve done the hard work for you with a fairly comprehensive guide to the very best January deals.

Evelyn’s, Tib Street

What is it: A gorgeous neighbourhood restaurant that’s been a staple of the Northern Quarter’s dining scene for years – great brunches and sharing plates in an unpretentious, cosy setting.

What is it: Just downstairs from Evelyn’s, The Daisy is a trendy little cocktail bar that does a great martini and always has a stellar soundtrack.

What is it: An American-Italian diner in the heart of the Northern Quarter, serving pizza and pasta plus giant mozzarella sticks.

TNQ, High Street

What is it: A neighbourhood restaurant serving classic British dishes in a lovely setting overlooking the cobbles of the Northern Quarter.

The offer: 50% off the a la carte menu, Monday to Friday, bookings only (excluding steaks).

Maricarmen, High St (and Great Ancoats St)

What is it: One of the best tapas places in town, known for great value for money and even better sangria – now available in NQ from their new second site.

What is it: A sunny new-ish coffee shop and cafe in the district with canned matchas and fresh bagels.

What is it: One of the newest hangouts in the Northern Quarter, The Morris is a pub downstairs, a funky retro cocktail bar upstairs, and then has an events space tucked up in the attic too.

The offer: 25% off drinks in the pub, Tuesday to Thursday; then 25% off drinks across the whole venue on Sundays

The Pen and Pencil, Hilton Street

What is it: A long-standing Northern Quarter favourite, with great food all day long plus happy hours, parties, brunches and more.

Shack, High Street

What is it: Sports bar, brunch favourite, gaming bar, late-night haunt, and kings of a great happy hour – this is a proper Northern Quarter staple.

Bab, Little Lever Street

House of Social, First Street/Sir Howard Bernstein Approach

What is it: A massive and marvellous food hall tucked behind the main First Street complex, serving everything from pizza, bakes, Indian street food and tacos, to ales, wine, cocktails and more.

Maray, Lincoln Square

What is it: A gorgeous Mediterranean restaurant with 10/10 service, where you can tuck into everything from falafel sharing plates to their famous disco cauliflower.

Circolo Popolare at St Michael’s, Jackson’s Row

What is it: Manchester’s addition to the global Big Mamma Group brand, serving stunning Italian food and the largest lemon meringue pie you’ve ever seen.

What is it: A stylish basement bar and restaurant on the corner of Gay Village, split across three floors and featuring a health dose of disco.

Society, Barbirolli Square

What is it: One of Manchester city centre’s best food and beer halls, featuring a variety of vendors serving a wide range of delicious cuisines.

The offer: A main dish from any of Society’s independent food traders for only £10, as well as pints and glasses of wine for a fiver. Available from 4-6pm, Monday to Friday. 

The Cut and Craft, Mosley Street

What is it: A luxury steak and seafood restaurant inside a stunning old Manchester city centre bank, featuring very flashy toilets and even a ‘wine fountain’.

The offer: Steak and Chips for £19′ offer, available Monday to Friday from 11:30am-4pm; there’s also a new set evening menu priced at £26 for two courses – Monday to Thursday, 4:45-10pm.

Maray is easily one of the best veggie restaurants in Manchester, though not exclusively plant-based.

O’Malleys, Portland Street

What is it: One of Manchester’s latest Irish bar on one of its busiest streets, along with some great foodie classics and live music.

The offer: 50% off food from Monday to Thursday, so as long as you buy a drink – simple as.

Blinker, Spring Gardens

What is it: An award-winning cocktail bar with a dedicated martini menu – and a snack menu of retro Breville toasties.

The offer: In partnership with Sazerac Rye, Blinker is doing a selection of classic rye cocktails for £8 each.

New Wave, Tib Lane

What is it: A cosy ramen restaurant that started life in Mackie Mayor before opening its own restaurant in the city centre.

Blues Kitchen, Quay Street

What is it: A late-night bar famed for its live music club nights, as well as serving a menu of food inspired by the Deep South.

The offer: 50% off the full food menu, all day, from Sunday through to Wednesday.

El Gato Negro, King Street

What is it: An acclaimed Spanish restaurant that’s a proud holder of a Michelin Bib Gourmand, plus a rooftop terrace – the perfect spot for some of the best tapas in Manchester.

The offer: Three dishes for £20, all day Sunday to Thursday, plus 12-5pm on Fridays – you need to sign up to El Gato Negro’s mailing list to claim the deal.

Black Cat Club, Brown Street

What is it: From the same team behind El Gato Negro, this is a more premium-feeling gaming bar than most, with interactive shuffleboards, darts, and plenty more.

The offer: £5 plates from Sunday to Thursday; plus £5 margaritas, frozen cocktails, pints and spritz.

Rajdoot Tandoori, Albert Square

What is it: One of the city centre’s oldest restaurants and a fantastic, family-run curry house serving authentic North Indian food.

Caravan, Goods Yard Street

What is it: An all-day dining spot, bar, coffee roastery and stylish restaurant serving up food from around the globe.

The offer: Book a class at BARRY’s any time in January and you’ll get 50% off breakfast/brunch, OR vice versa – book brunch with us and get you’ll a complimentary introductory bootcamp class; Caravan is also bringing back their Six/Sip for £6 deal on food and drink from Monday to Friday throughout Jan and Feb.

The Trading Route, Goods Yard St

What is it: A brilliant new-ish local hangout with rotisserie chicken dishes (including an absolutely class Caesar salad and focaccia sandwiches) and great beers from Manchester Union Brewery.

The Lawn Club, Hardman Square

What is it: A bustling spot in the heart of Spinningfields that’s popular for its bottomless brunches, as well as lunches and after-work drinks.

The offer: 50% off food between 2 January and 13 February, bookings advised but walk-ins also welcome.

Sexy Fish, The Avenue

What is it: A glittering restaurant with sushi, glamorous cocktails, and an incredibly impressive interior design.

The offer: A £25 ‘Sexy January Set Menu’ with two dishes for £25 with miso soup – between 12-8pm Monday to Friday, 12-6pm on Saturdays, and 5-8pm on Sundays

The Alchemist, Hardman Street (also MediaCity and New York Street)

What is it: A long-standing bar and restaurant with locations across the North, famed for its creative and theatrical cocktails.

The offer: Prices are going back to 2010 throughout January, meaning £6 cocktails and dishes

Lina Stores, Quay Street

What is it: All-day Italian-influenced dining, from antipasti and pizza to salads, desserts, Bar Lina cocktails and much more. There’s even deli items and groceries to takeaway.

The offer: January ‘Pranzo Da Lina’ menu – three course for £15 courses, Monday to Friday from 12-2:30pm; salad box or a filled focaccia with a free tea/coffee and a mini cannolo for £9.95. Bar Lina is also doing cocktails for a fiver every day throughout the month, 5-7pm, quoting ‘JanOffer’ when ordering. 

Side Street, Quay St

What is it: One of the coolest spaces in town, with beautiful mid-century interiors and great drinks, plus loads of events.

The offer: All-day happy hour throughout January, Monday to Friday, with £7 cocktails and £5 non-alcoholic cocktails.

Tartuffe, Quay St

What is it: Inside the kitchens at Side Street, Tartuffe serves rotisserie chicken and roasts, sometimes in the form of some of the city’s most epic sandwiches.

The offer: January set menu with two courses for £28 and three for £32, Tuesday to Thursday, 5-8pm, with a booking.

Piccadilly

Higher Ground, New York Street

What is it: A proud holder of a Michelin Bib Gourmand, Higher Ground is a British restaurant operated by formidable hospitality trio Joseph Otway, Richard Cossins, and Daniel Craig Martin. It’s also one of Rick Stein’s favourite place to eat.

What is it: From the same team as Higher Ground, a sophisticated and incredibly cool cocktail bar serving ice-cold martinis and fantastic seafood snacks and small plates.

Winsome, Princess Street

What is it: Shaun Moffat’s Michelin Guide-recommended British restaurant – think epic pies, thick-cut local meat, and plenty more.

What is it: Tucked inside one of Manchester’s newest hotels, this waterside restaurant has a menu of locally-sourced small plates and plenty of familiar North West suppliers.

What is it: A fast food spot inspired by the health-conscious takeaways of Australia – expect smoothie bowls, acai, salads, smoothies, protein balls, and loads more to nourish you from the inside out.

Mit Alles at The New Cross, Cross Keys Street

What is it: A falafel and kebab spot in the kitchens at The New Cross, with freshly-grilled meats, handmade falafel, and shawarma.

What is it: Manchester’s most luxurious food hall, with modern interiors and three fantastic local kitchens – Osma, Anatra, and MoreJoy.

What is it: Coffees and brunches all day, which seamlessly switch into spritzes, beers and wines after work with Italian small plates.

What is it: The most literal take on crazy golf, where players weave around cars and slides and all sorts of other madness.

V. Goode Pies

What is it: The grab-and-go pie shop from the team behind the acclaimed Winsome mentioned earlier, serving classic flavours as well as creative twists like lasagne pie and breakfast pie. You can have them in a barm, dunked in gravy, or on a tray with mash and peas.

The offer: 99p bacon barms from Monday to Friday, 8-10am.
