The government has announced that wholesale energy prices for businesses will be capped at “less than half” their anticipated winter levels in a new support package.
With the rising cost of living crisis continuing to make its impact felt nationwide, the government has this morning unveiled its Energy Bill Relief Scheme – which is set to provide a discount on wholesale gas and electricity prices for all UK businesses, the voluntary sector, and the public sector, whose current gas and electricity prices have been “significantly inflated” in light of global energy prices.
The government says the relief scheme is aimed at “supporting growth, preventing unnecessary insolvencies, and protecting jobs”.
This support will be equivalent to the Energy Price Guarantee put in place for households.
Under the scheme revealed by the Department for Business, Energy and Industry, wholesale prices are expected to be fixed for all non-domestic energy customers at £211 per MWh for electricity, and £75 per MWh for gas, and will apply to energy usage from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023.

It will run for an initial six-month period, with a review set after three months to consider whether it should be extended, or to see whether specific sectors require more targeted support.
The new Energy Bill Relief Scheme will cut energy prices for businesses, charities and public-sector organisations such as schools and hospitals.
The scheme will run for 6 months covering energy used from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023.

Speaking on the unveiling or the support scheme today, Prime Minister Liz Truss said: “I understand the huge pressure businesses, charities and public sector organisations are facing with their energy bills, which is why we are taking immediate action to support them over the winter and protect jobs and livelihoods.

“As we are doing for consumers, our new scheme will keep their energy bills down from October, providing certainty and peace of mind.
“At the same time, we are boosting Britain’s homegrown energy supply so we fix the root cause of the issues we are facing and ensure greater energy security for us all.”
“We have seen an unprecedented rise in energy prices, which has affected consumers up and down the country and businesses of all sizes,” said Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Smith decided to pop in and grab a cheeky rice and three from long-standing backstreet food business This & That, and it certainly went down a treat.
After sampling their amazing selection of meat, vegetable and vegan curries, the musician crowned this family-run Indian takeaway a ‘Jewel of Manchester’.
The hitmaker described this Northern Quarter Indian eatery as ‘Everything food should be’ and definitely enjoyed all the curries on offer ‘leaving belly and heart full’.

After enjoying a curry or three, Sam Smith also made sure to feed their soul to by venturing down to Afflecks and getting lost in the music at Mars Tapes.

24-hour bus services are now running across all Greater Manchester boroughs

24-hour bus services are now running across all boroughs in Greater Manchester.
You may remember that back in March, it was announced that every borough of Greater Manchester was set to get a night bus service in what is hoped to be a ‘boost’ to the night-time economy… and now it’s official, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has launched those 24-hour buses this month, along with a series of other measures.
Oldham, Stockport, Tameside, and Trafford now join the rest of Greater Manchester in having 24-hour bus services, meaning every part of the region will have a night bus operating Thursday through to Sunday.
It’s expected that these new services will help around 625,400 people working in the night-time economy across Greater Manchester, as well as those out enjoying the region’s nightlife, TfGM has said.
The routes which will run around the clock from Thursday until Sunday are:
50 (Salford – Manchester)
216 (Tameside – Manchester)
263 (Trafford – Manchester)
192 (Stockport – Manchester)
83 (Oldham – Manchester)

They launch alongside the most significant service changes to the Bee Network since the completion of bus franchising last year – including other new bus routes, and more frequent services across Greater Manchester.

“By growing the Bee Network, we’re making it easier than ever for people to use the bus, day and night.
“Our night buses are already providing a lifeline to some of the hundreds of thousands of people who are growing our night-time economy and working in essential public services.”
