Social media doesn’t miss anything — especially football Twitter — and after a clip popped up online, it seems as though Manchester United fans now think they have proof that Antony isn’t such a big fan of his teammate Harry Maguire.
United got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, with Antony himself opening the scoring and assisting the second for Diogo Dalot to secure the three points.
However, as important as the result was following a dip in form, the squad has found itself significantly depleted following a number of injuries and, as a result, Harry Maguire has found himself back in the starting lineup.
It’s safe to say that he didn’t have a great first half on Sunday and after the misfortune of heading home United’s second own goal against Sevilla last Thursday, the wayward captain isn’t having the best time and many Reds think one teammate in let slip that he’s had enough. Introducing the Antony death stare:
While it’s easy to read too much into stuff like this, the Brazilian was all smiles right up until the moment the England centre-back joined in the celebrations and seemed in high spirits following the second goal he set up in the 76th minute.
Maguire was the subject of heavy criticism throughout the first 45 for simply not being at the races, albeit after a prolonged spell out of the backline, picking up an early yellow card and potentially getting himself into further trouble with a handball shout were it not for the mercy of VAR.
His performance was unfortunate as he did have a good game in the previous league game against Everton, however, the calamitous end to the Sevilla game midweek clearly didn’t help his confidence.
Whether Antony’s reaction to Maguire was telling or not, he and the rest of his teammates will have to get used to having him on the pitch for the foreseeable as not only is Varane still expected to miss a few games, but Lisandro Martinez has sadly been ruled out for the rest of the season.
