What's On
You can watch Hocus Pocus with a live orchestra in Manchester next month
Hocus Pocus In Concert is set to be "the perfect Halloween treat".
One of the best-loved Halloween films is to be screened with a live orchestra playing its iconic soundtrack next month.
It may only be a couple of weeks since we waved goodbye to summer, but with the air starting to feel more autumnal by the day and the spooky season right around the corner, it won’t be long before fans of a Disney movie sit down to watch the 1993 classic that is Hocus Pocus.
Directed by Kenny Ortega, and starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, the fantasy comedy horror film follows a villainous comedic trio of witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a virgin teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night.
When it was first released, the film actually received mixed reviews from film critics and was not a box office success – but, thanks to annual airings all throughout the month of October annually, Hocus Pocus has been rediscovered by audiences.
The annual celebration of Halloween has helped make the film a cult classic.
So much so, that a sequel – aptly titled Hocus Pocus 2 – is set to be released on Disney+ at the end of this month on 30 September – which will be continuation of the story that started in the first movie, and see many of the original cast return.
But if watching Hocus Pocus was already a tradition in your house and on your Halloween agenda this year, then how do you fancy watching it live in concert as well?
Well, that’s exactly what’s happening at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester late next month.
As part of a nationwide tour, Hocus Pocus In Concert will be stopping off in our city, and it sounds like it’s set to be “the perfect Halloween treat”.
With tickets now on sale and already being snapped up fast, the one-off event will feature a screening of the complete film, with Emmy-winning composer John Debney’s musical score performed live to accompany the spooky classic.
