Aldi is scrapping its Click & Collect service at hundreds of UK stores

Aldi has announced major plans to scrap its Click & Collect service at hundreds of stores across the UK.

Click & Collect has become a must-have option for most retailers nationwide, as it’s known and loved for providing shoppers with ease and speed when buying their weekly groceries… but in just a matter of days, Aldi will be calling time on the popular service at its UK stores after launching its version of the scheme back in 2020.

The budget supermarket introduced the option to click and collect amidst the online shopping boom at the height of the COVID lockdowns, and has been running it as a ‘trail’ ever since.

For the fee of just £4.99, Aldi’s click and collect option saw staff members bring customers their online shopping order in the store’s car park.

But, as of this Sunday (18 August), that option will be no more, according to The Grocer.

According to Aldi, its click and collect service had actually been under review since its 2020 launch in the first place, and that the decision to scrap the trial now will help stores run “more efficiently” and maintain a price advantage over its competitors.

Aldi’s axing of click and collect comes after it put an end to its home delivery of alcohol and Specialbuys last year after rolling-out the service in 2015, and then also deciding to end its grocery delivery partnership with Deliveroo back in 2022 too.

“At Aldi, our focus is on providing customers with high-quality products at the lowest possible prices,” an Aldi spokesperson told The Grocer about the end of click and collect.

“One of the ways we keep our prices low for customers is by running the most efficient supermarket business in Britain, and as a result, we’ve made the decision to bring our click and collect service to an end so we can focus on doing just that.”
