Residents of Bradford Road in Bolton have been evacuated following the discovery of an unexploded bomb.
Police are on the scene and have halted all traffic between Green Lane and Bishops Road in Farnworth.
A resident apparently found the item in their back garden shortly before midday and promptly contacted the authorities.
Greater Manchester Police commented: "At around 12.05pm today (Monday 10 February 2020) police were made aware of an item – possibly from World War Two – found in a garden on Bradford Road in Bolton.
"EOD are making their way to the scene to assess the item - a number of nearby addresses have been evacuated as a precaution and some road closures are in place in the local vicinity.
"Officers are advising the public to stay away from the area at this time."
