There’s a museum for just about everything these days (we all remember trips to the Stockport Hat Works museum) – but the world’s only space dedicated to vaginas has been forced to close again.
The world-first Vagina Museum announced this week that it’s had to vacate its premises and has once again been left ‘homeless’.
The museum, which welcomed 40,000 visitors in the 10 months it was open, was founded to raise awareness of the gynaecological anatomy and health, erase stigma, and act as a forum for feminism.
Inside, visitors could browse everything from educational materials to art pieces inspired by vaginas and vulvas – including giant tampons decorated in red sequins.
The Vagina Museum said it was ‘disappointed’ that it has been asked to leave its space, adding that it will continue to operate digitally until it finds a new base.
They wrote in a heartfelt statement on social media that they were ‘incredibly proud’ of the museum’s achievements.
Fans of the space queued down the street for its final few days in Bethnal Green, before its eventual closure on Wednesday 1 February.
Their statement said: “Sad news. We’ve received notice to vacate our premises at Bethnal Green by the end of this week. As a property guardianship, we’ve always been aware that we may be asked to leave with very short notice. We’re disappointed that it has come so soon.
“@Enter_theVenue the creative hub with whom we share our space, have also been asked to leave. The Vagina Museum will continue to operate in the digital world as we search for a new home.”
The message continued: “We’re sad about this development, but incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in the ten months we’ve been at our Bethnal Green premises. We’ve welcomed more than 40,000 visitors through our doors, and received so much love and positive feedback.
“In our time at Bethnal Green, we’ve once again demonstrated just how much the world needs and wants a Vagina Museum.
“Times are, once again, uncertain for us, but we’ve been through this before and risen stronger than ever. With a community like you supporting us, we know we can get through this too.
“We’re actively searching for a new home, and if you know of any vacant spaces (or have one yourself!) please don’t hesitate to reach out. In our home in Bethnal Green, we and ENTER demonstrated that we can transform an empty, unused building into a thriving heart of a community.
“If you don’t have a building, you can still help! Please consider making a donation; a donation of any size makes a huge difference and will help us to weather this storm, just as we’ve weathered storms before.”
The Vagina Museum concluded its thread with: “We’ve made it through a pandemic and a period of temporary homelessness before. With you, together, we can make it through this too.”
Knight has traded in the foggy streets of Birmingham for the back alleys and stately mansions of Dublin – as well as its world-renowned brewery, of course – as House of Guinness is set to whisk audiences back to the 1860s, where the powerful and debaucherous titular Guinness family is ‘on the precipice of greatness’.
Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the eight-part series explores an epic story inspired by one of Europe’s most famous and enduring dynasties, and begins immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness.
The story follows the far-reaching impact of Sir Guinness’s will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the phenomenon that is Guinness.

The four Guinness siblings are played by actors Anthony Boyle (Arthur), Louis Partridge (Edward), Emily Fairn (Anne), and Fionn O’Shea (Ben).
Audiences get to watch the Guinnesses experience ‘ecstatic highs’ and heartbreaking lows’ as they work to live up to their birthright of black gold.
The newly-released trailer gives intrigued viewers the chance to see the talented ensemble cast in action, and marvel at the set designs that are like stepping back in time to the 1860s.
Production and filming for House of Guinness commenced from summer 2024 onwards, and some very well-known Greater Manchester places were used as filming locations, such as the Northern Quarter, and Stockport‘s legendary Underbanks.

Mansions in Cheshire and Liverpool were also used as filming locations for the show.
“It’s the extraordinary story of a family who happens to be the inheritors of the biggest brewery in the world,” creator Steven Knight told Netflix.
“They’re young and are given the task of taking on this incredibly successful brand. The first priority is – don’t screw it up. And the second priority is to make Guinness even bigger.”
House of Guinness will air on Netflix on 25 September, with all eight episodes to available to stream straight away.

Major Greater Manchester tram line to shut all this weekend for ‘essential’ track replacement

A major programme of planned and coordinated work to replace tram tracks in Greater Manchester is finally set to be rounded off for the year.
But first, one of the region‘s major tram lines will need to shut for a full weekend.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has confirmed that essential maintenance will be carried out on the Ashton line for three days this extended weekend, and during this time, no trams will run between Piccadilly Gardens and Ashton-under-Lyne, and a replacement bus service will operate between the affected stops.
It comes after work to replace ageing tracks between Piccadilly Station and Piccadilly Gardens was successfully completed in early August.
TfGM worked with Metrolink operator KAM to keep trams running from Piccadilly to Ashton throughout the 11-week closure, however on this occasion, it will not be possible to do so and the line will have to shut to the public.
Taking the tram on Fri, Sat or Sun?
No trams will run between Piccadilly Gardens & Ashton-under-Lyne, due to works.
A bus replacement service will serve the affected stops.
Service changes: Piccadilly Gardens – Eccles/MediaCityUK, Altrincham – Bury.
All essential maintenance works that have been carried out and completed this year form part of a long-term plan to ensure ‘safe and reliable’ services – with TfGM having invested nearly £150m to ‘maintain, upgrade, and improve’ the Metrolink network through to 2027.
During this closure, additional work will also be carried out across the Ashton line network – including drainage works at locations in Droylsden and Audenshaw.
“This is the final piece of this year’s planned track replacement programme, and we would like to thank everyone for bearing with us while these essential upgrades have been carried out,” commented Danny Vaughan, who is the Chief Network Officer at TfGM.
“As more people choose to get on board the Bee Network, it’s important we continue to invest in our tram system to keep it safe, reliable and accessible for years to come.”
