Salt Dog Slims – an American diner crossed with an underground speakeasy – is officially opening a new venue in Manchester.
The bar, which specialises in world beers, steins, cocktails and US-style chilli dogs – has already found success in Liverpool under GSG Hospitality, boasting a menu containing items such as bacon-wrapped hot dogs, Texas bbq dogs, and grilled cheese sandwiches.
A new two-floor Salt Dog Slims is set to launch in Bow Lane near Albert Square this year; featuring a ground floor and basement bar.
The 3,000 sq ft venue will cater for 200 people at full capacity.
No move-in date has been confirmed yet – but owners say the ground floor bar will launch in a “few months”, with the basement welcoming customers before Christmas.
Salt Dog Slims Manchester will have the edgy interior of its predecessor in Liverpool, accompanied by creative cocktails and steins, plus the American diner-inspired food menu.
GSG Hospitality has completed a full rip out and installed a new kitchen and bar, with plush new booths being fitted this week.
A focus on soft furnishings will follow before the venue is ready to launch.
Matt Farrell, Director of Salt Dog Slims, said: “We set our sights on opening a venue in Manchester a while ago and we’re very excited to be opening the doors to Salt Dog Slim’s very soon.
“Despite the challenges that COVID has created, we’ve pushed on with the build of the venue and behind the scenes we’ve been working on our interesting cocktails and new food menu for when we open.”
Fellow Director John Ennis added: “Salt Dog Slims is famous for providing steins, brines and good times and we’re really looking forward to bringing that same energy to Manchester and welcoming our guests for the first time in the coming months.”

Shogun Ramen and Bar
Fans and staff alike were heartbroken when Chorlton restaurant Peck & Yard announced it was closing its doors for good in August, so we’re all happy to see the team return under a new guise.
Switching from baskets of fried chicken to steaming bowls of ramen and handrolled sushi, bosses will try something entirely new as they delve into the world of Japanese cuisine.
The concept is something they had originally considered before opening Peck & Yard, and they said that “with the times we’re in” they thought “why not go back to the original idea and give this one last shot”.
Soft launch 1 October from 5pm, open from 6 October.
Late-night bar and restaurant Mnky Hse (pronounced “monkey house”) is set to be taking over a space in Lloyd House this month.
First opened in Mayfair, London, in 2016, it will be the second UK site for the restaurant and its first in the north of England when it opens its doors this September.
Known for its ‘hidden entrance’, Instagram-friendly interiors, live music, extensive cocktail menu and Latin American dishes, here you’ll find a great range of tacos – both soft and crunchy – alongside a range of sushi, ceviche and grill dishes.
Tortilla, Oxford Road
Mexican food chain Tortilla has arrived in Manchester, bringing a new burrito shop to the Oxford Road student stretch this month.
Offering a range of award-winning burritos, nachos and tacos, you’ll also find quesadillas, chips and salsa, salad bowls and more on the menu.
A new arrival in Longridge, Fell Bistro comes from former Masterchef the Professional finalist Oli Martin who previously spent eight years at four AA rosette restaurant Hipping Hall.
With head chef Rikki Hughes, previousl of Tom Kerridge’s Michelin pub The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, heading up the kitchen we expect great things.
The menu offers a selection of classic dishes with their wood fired oven and grill featuring prominently. Elsewhere, find hearty Sunday lunches and light bites.
Bread and Bowl, Spinningfields
There are carb overloads, and then there is Bread & Bowls‘ Full English breakfast in a hollowed-out loaf.
First launched in February 2020, these ginormous loaves of sourdough – stuffed with fry-up favourites like high-grade local sausages, crispy streaky bacon, beans, cheese, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and hash browns – became something of a hungover lockdown sensation.
Now, you can find them at the new Spinningfields coffee shop 92 Degrees, housed inside the no.1 Spinningfields building Served between 8am and 4pm every day.
Bold Street Coffee, Oxford Road
Liverpool-born Bold Street Coffee has just opened its second shop here in the space of a few months.
Moving into the universities territory, the new site is found at University Green just off Oxford Road.
Serving the same menu as its Cross Street site, head down for egg boxes, signature BSC frys, and hearty bowls of super porridge and granola.

There’s an all-you-can-eat cheese buffet coming to a pub in Manchester where you can feast on the good stuff to your heart’s content, and we’re absolutely here for it.
Taking place at Northern Quarter pub Pie and Ale, the one-off night will see Leeds-born cheese tasting company Homage to Fromage lay on a giant help-yourself cheese buffet.
Showcasing their top eight cheeses of 2022, cheese lovers can expect to find a number of award-winning varieties on offer alongside bread, crackers, chutney and ‘all the trimmings’.
Unlimited cheese will be served for a whopping two and a half hours, and there’s absolutely no limit on how many crumbly bits, hard or soft cheeses you reach for.
As for drinks, thanks to the brilliant bar at host venue Pie and Ale you can also get stuck into a large selection of ales and craft beers: with six rotating cask asles, craft lager and beer on tap, and plenty of cans and bottles in the fridge.
Stocking an array of beers from near and far, Pie and Ale’s bar is undoubtedly a treasure trove for beer lovers but it also has something for wine drinkers, with a small list of reds and whites, and a decent cocktail and spirits list on offer.
The night will be laid back and informal, with organisers promising that there will be some ‘absolute belters’ making an appearance.
Put together by Homage to Fromage co-founders Nick and Vickie, an unlikely duo from Yorkshire who formed a business following a random conversation on Twitter in 2011, cheese lovers will be able to dig into unlimited portions for just £20 a head during a two and a half hour period. Drinks are not included.
